Do you like to bring a smile to the most neglected children living on the street of kolkata ,India. This project is all about bringing smile to all underprivileged refugee children & their mother from the street of kolkata. Providing informal basic education like English teaching, hygiene, basic health care, family planning education, playing, organizing entertainment program, food distribution for these children of this downtrodden community would be the main target of the volunteers in this camp. Our partner is a registered Nonprofit working for these underprivileged communities around the state of West Bengal since 2003. On August 31, 2003, a team of family and friends leaded by Mr. Debabrata Chakraborty, voluntarily formed our partner association to fight against this injustice and bring a smile to these cute faces. Since then SMILE brought hundreds of children from the street to the normal society. SMILE mission is to provide volunteers with a customized program (work camp, short term, long term) that will enable them to make an important contribution to these poor and needy kids from the street. Our foremost goal is to "Bring Smile around" We ensure that all volunteers are provided with a safe and enriching experience. Our flexible approach means that you will be given a placement to suit your needs and time scale. All international students are also welcome to take part in our Program. Our unique placements could become the trip of a lifetime.

A propos du travail de volontaire

Target Group for these camps: Helping Children and their mother/sister from the street (mostly refugees) of India to get basic education, vocational and hygienic training etc. Daily more than 100 families receive support at our different centers around. Project Back ground: India having uncountable numbers of street and slum dwellers. There are thousands of poor refugees coming every year from nearby countries and from different small towns and villages to the big cities and most of these families are living in a very poorly condition at slums or on street corners like insects. Normal societies are so busy to deal with their personal daily problems, so have little time for these unfortunate people. With every such family Grownup girls and married women (mother of the children) always have to face the problem in their daily life. Often these families bring their children to help them in begging, household work, rag picking activities, even some girls been forcibly thrown to the dark life of prostitution. So it is really a shame of the so called civilized societies. We have got our few projects for these unfortunate street children at the different locations of big cities. Now there are opportunities available to help and support these unfortunate girls and mothers of the street children in and around Kolkata (ccu) city. Our target to bring smile on ever mother too with their children. Kolkata, the city of joy was known before as Calcutta since the colonial time. This ancient city was used to be the capital of British colonial period. This city has full of heart; people are basically belonging to the middle class. There are also rich and poor people all around. City Kolkata is known for its busy traffic, huge population, warm welcome and poverty around the street corners! It is a great place to visit for every tourist coming to India. Work & Activities :- Most important target of the project is to bring smile among these children and provide confidence and moral support to their mother .Volunteer would use different way of informal education technique to present a unique and attractive way of education programs for these kids .Most of these kids speaks local Bengali /Hindi language but they are very smart and intelligent.so teaching them with the support of local coordinator would not be so difficult ,just little bit of patience and involvement can solve this problem easily. All volunteers would go through orientation on arrival and two local language session during this camp. There would also be a workshop every evening when volunteers would prepare the next day lesson plan of action. For mothers informal vocational training and basic English teaching would be helpful. Volunteers would also help local coordinator in other activities like giving shower food distribution, organizing drama, storytelling and entertainment games for the children. Whole camp would be run under the supervision of very experienced local project coordinator. Saturday and Sunday would be free days when volunteers can take rest or tour around the city or nearby places. More over if anyone get a chance to live with the local host family then that brings extra bonus to any traveler. It helps to learn the culture, tradition, language while staying within the normal people of the society. Living on any hotel can never give any traveler such wide scope to know the society and communities as a whole. SMILE always tries to give international volunteers a big scope to know about the local communities and understand the family environment. Smile (ngo) had started their activities since 2003!

A propos de l'organisation locale

CPCS was founded in 2002 to answer the children’s needs in the streets of Nepal. Every year, hundreds of kids, hundreds of kids, attracted by the allure of the “big city”, leave their villages. Once there, they discover the harsh realities of life in the streets and are left on their own to face multiple forms of danger and abuse (moral, sexual and physical).

CPCS was created to support these children and youth and to prevent more children from ending up in the streets.

The organization’s work can be divided into three steps:

1. Prevention (prior to and during the street life): set of interventions focused in two ways: –prevent and, if possible, avoid the arrival of the child in the street –create awareness among general public, the families and the children themselves on the realities of life in the Streets (its causes, its daily routines and its consequences).

2. Risk reduction (during life in the streets): short-term perspective focusing on immediate reduction of the dangers of street life.

3. Social rehabilitation (the life after living in the streets): long-term perspective focusing on progressive and eventual reintegration of a child into society. (Deinstitutionalisation)

CPCS International and its local partners currently run four regional centers (Sindhuli – CRPC, Dolakha – CPCR, Morang – ORCHID, Kathmandu – CPCS NGO) backsupporting 41 local centers (where CLASS (CPCS Local Action Support and Services) programs are being held.

Daily, up to 850 children are being helped with our organization’s activities, 400-500 children are supported by our socialization or rehabilitation centers, 1600 ex-street children and children at risk go to school and several dozens receive medical or legal support.

A propos du travail de volontaire

In this center, 30-60 girls and boys are sheltered in a rehabilitation program (before going back to their own house) and 500 families (2000 children) are supported in various local schools.

Children in the Rehabilitation program are accomodated in this center. This phase takes as long as the child needs it and until he can go back to his family or another organization.

This center also hosts the schooling program, which is part of the rehabilitation program. This program is the first phase in which the child who has just been brought off the Streets integrates socially through activities such as creating art, education, sports and psychological support. If returning to their family does not appear as being an option for the child, they are instead encouraged to join the réhabilitation prigram in which they can engage and become more accommodated to the idea of going to school. We support all children who want to go (back) to school.

The shelter and rehabilitation center accomodates up to 80 children. (Sometimes more)

Here is a small vidéo showing and explaining the project there:

A propos du logement sur place

The volunteers will be sheltered in a nice cottage (2 volunteers in each room) nearby the Regional Office. Team members and children are living closeby and the area is very beautiful.

Localisation du projet

This Regional office is located at Deurali, in the remote district of Dolakha (5 hours drive from Kathmandu – east side of the country).

Exigences

1. Being 18 years old.

2. Being autonomous and independent. This is an important condition to be able to work in the existing structure. The volunteer must not be a burden to the team. He/she has to manage his daily routine and transportation himself, and be able to deal with the difficulties that come with distant travels (cultural, social, medical, practical).

3. Being prepared and informed about the country, reading the documents about the project and undertaking steps to raise funds (as a participation to the project and its centers and departments).

4. Being insured by an insurance company that covers medical repatriation, and support costs (even in case of conflicts/earthquakes in the country or the need of an helicopter evacuation).

5. Coming to Nepal with an active, respectful and social attitude.

Some remarks:

a. There are excellent travel agencies that organise trips to Nepal (and the Nepalese economy needs them). You can contact them for a touristic trip.

b. The hippie scene in Kathmandu is over since 30 years. Go to Amsterdam, it’s closer….

c. To meditate and resource yourself, there are excellent Buddhist centers and Hindhu ashrams all over the world. The children for whom we work already, face enough pyschological and identity problems.

 Being a volunteer is devoting oneself to others, sharing with them, giving, learning, watching, feeling, living, creating things with them. However, it is also a difficult step to integrate oneself into an existing system (in a different culture, with different habits and many things you may not understand!)

NEW PARTNER

Jyothirgamaya Foundation is a non profit organization working for the betterment of persons with visual impairment. Created in 16-04-2017, "We are, “an eye to the blind”! "

Our aim is to empower the blind in all spheres of life. Jyothirgamaya is an organization operating under a charitable trust that is the Jyothirgamaya foundation

According to the Kerala Federation for the Blind 2001 sample survey there, are four hundred thousand blind people living in the state of Kerala. Many of which go to schools, and many also have governmental jobs. Despite this fact they are not at all able to perform their activities of daily living, and they also lack immensely in orientation and mobility skills. They are confined within the four walls of their houses, and are not allowed to come out unaided. As they are living in the rural areas and most of the blind organizations are in the urban areas, they do not have access to proper training facilities. The reason behind this is that their guardians are not able to bring them to the school or training center. In order to solve this problem Jyothirgamaya adopts a unique approach of taking the school to their doorstep. We reach out to our blind beneficiaries through advertising our services in newspapers, featuring our programmes in popular television channels and radio channels. In order to widen our outreach programme we are also conducting short term workshops and training camps in different parts of the state.

To empower the blind in all possible spheres of life, through need based individualized training in all necessary skills paving the way for sharpening their personalities, and enabling them to get suitable employment. And also to sensitize the general public on how to look at the blind, and provide them with a conducive platform to live as every other citizen does

A propos du travail de volontaire

Researching of materials from abroad for the enhancement and rehabilitation of blind persons, translation of brochures, fliers, and other content in to the volunteers own language, spreading the word of the organization in his/her own country and connecting the organization to possible potential donors, and likeminded organizations if possible. All in all giving the organization new ideas and paving the way for its progress

A propos de l'organisation localeWe are eco- friendly family farmers who are practicing a new farming called ‘Spiritual Nature Farm’. Why this SN farming is needed? Because we want to build our farm without any harm to nature. At the same time we want to make a place to bring people together by doing farming to build peace and reconciliation among them who have been affected by many difficulties because of inorganic conventional farming and other difficulties like poverty, lack of education, strife and malnutrition. Also if somebody like to do some meditation or Yoga we are willing to facilitate in our farm. We do not have any backgrounds, colours, race, language, hight and ethnics. Everybody are equally treated. And we live together by sharing with each other in one place as one nation. Our values - Protecting bio-diversity without using chemicals, being fair to the producer and consumer, being healthy to consume, resulting in a proper diet - Having a process of using natural resources in the environment - Trying to carry out indigenous farming as far as possible. - Limiting soil erosion to enhance soil conservation by protecting air, water, and nutrients of the soil, - Making Peace by gathering people from different social strata. - Creating a special relationship of respect among all living beings and materials. - Promoting peace through environment. Our vision ‘A path for spiritual development through natural farm.’ Our mission ‘Creating a process of using natural resources in the environment, with no harm, but with proper technical methods, with the support of indigenous farming, limiting soil erosion to enhance soil conservation by protecting air, water, nutrients of the soil, using all waste materials, protecting bio-diversity without using chemicals, being fair to the producer and consumer, being healthy to consume, resulting in a proper diet and creating a special relationship of respect among all living beings and materials as well.’ Our objectives 01 Maintaining the farm naturally and spiritually as a demonstration. 02 Providing local job opportunities. 03 Conducting a Education center and building the community centre with meditation cottage. 04 Helping students by giving school materials. 05 Organic Kitchen Garden. 06 Improving health in general, reducing lack of nutrition in the wider population, increasing the production of naturally nutritious food to fight poverty. 07 Reducing environment pollution (of soil, air, and water). 08 Making a place to build peace among people in Sri Lanka and world wide.

A propos du travail de volontaireIt is about the way of facing the Future Hunger with preservative food in sustainable way. In addition to this to achieve our objectives mentioned above, we are having a place to build a farm and community education center. Through this proposed project we hope to build the capacity, awareness and education of young farmers and children to improve their competence, commitment and environment sensitiveness to play as more Eco friendly farmers and childrens' role in guiding and strengthening them from early childhood. At present we are at the early stages of building our farm and education center. We need many supporters to grow vegetables and other crops and maintaning in these days like pepper, cinnomon, banana and ginger. Volunteers can help us : Cleaning Gardening Teaching school students Building a farm house and other small construction like cowshed, bio gas system, etc. Mainly they can share our knowledge making organic fertilizers, and other bio pesticide etc. In addition to that, those volunteers can choose a wide range of activities like music, art, painting, gardening, computer skills, shopping, cleaning, washing, swimming and teaching as well. Also if somebody like to do some meditation or Yoga we can facilitate. At the same time the volunteers who prefer to attend with children and help in construction work (houses for the poor, toilet, water wells) will be placed in the particular projects. We appreciate spending your valuable money and time for such noble work( it can be Matearial Or Finacial) you can discus with the people what they needed for the movement and diside. This is for community that will gain you merits.

A propos du logement sur placeAt present we have a house with 3 rooms, kitchen, drawing room, dining room and parlor. Water is pumping from the well. You are welcome for simple accommodation and food available with us. 6 volunteers can stay in one turn. If more volunteers prefer to come we can arrange our house for 12-15 people. Sleeping would generally be on the floor on mats. Males and females would not share the room as this would be frowned upon by the local community. Toilets are squatting type with are not geared to take in all the tissues that you may discard. If there isn't sufficient water to flush it is our advice to have a card board box or a pail to discard these items. Mosquitoes/ flies/ insects would like to make your acquaintance be prepared. But they are not harmful or dangerous. Most of the vegetables and fruits are grown and supplied from the farm to our kitchen.

Localisation du projetTo the east of Matale, Godapola Estate is located in the central province of Sri Lanka. The area which this farm belongs to is 1500 m above sea level. The temperature is between 18-33 0c.This is a mountainous area and can see many ranges of mountains around and waterfalls running from the foot of those mountains. And also they stand in prestige with king’s era of the last kingdom(kandy) of Ceylon. There are many historical places that our farm is closer by. One of the famous and historical place is “Matale Alu Viharaya” (Temple Alu Vihara). Our farm is very close to the “Riverston” as well. It offers great views all around with a mini world’s end, lot less travelled by main stream tourists. Climatic conditions here is about 18-220c which is very similar to Horton plains with the addition of having two great waterfalls “Sera Ella” and “Bambarakiri Ella”. Another place called ‘Sembuwatta’ which is hardly famous among foreign tourists but of course gets their attraction as it is a lake situated amidst tea estates and ranges of mountains and bound with strange common falk. We are in a mountainous area and our place is located where it is sorrounded by ranges of mountains and natural water resources. But some of them are under threat due to the usage of chemicals in tea estates and paddy fields by farmers. Paddy fields in this area are cultivated terraced due to the hilly area. And also this area of Hill country is attracted by tourists for its natural beauty and bio-diversity.

ExigencesWe are looking for any volunteers who prefer to enguage in physical labour-soiling or ‘dirtying’ their hands and knees going beyond their dignity and self-image to take a shovel or a broom to scrap and help and share their knowledge and skills for above work. This does not mean that we expect hard work from volunteers. Mainly who like to do voluntering by teaching the students of 6 to 15 age. If you are a motivated such person or a group who are willing to volunteer with the right spirit, correct attitude and the essential sense of humour then this spiritual farm will be suiting to gain experiences for you. May be you could add some of your own tried and tested remedies – to fill in the blanks. If you are new to farming or above work and to our community we feel that some purpose may be served. One learns about us only by actually participating in farm activities – the farming and other works in particular. For many people it takes a long time to understand our goal and appreciate our approach depending on their nature and behaviour. SO LET’S SEE HOW YOU FARE.

A propos du point de rencontre If you wish to be met at the airport please let us know. We can also arrange a vehicle to transport you from the airport to Matale – our farm which will cost you 80 Euro. For this matter please keep us informed of your flight details and time of arrival. Then we can coordinate you easily. If you are more than one volunteer /a group you can share the traveling expenses with them. If there are more than 8 people in the group we will arrange two vehicles or another bus which will cost about 160 Euro. If not after you reach Bandaranayke International Airport in Colombo, it is about 30 km’s outside the city of Colombo. Once you come out to the arrivals hall, please make a phone call to us. It will cost you about Rs.10, 20 Srilankan rupees. If you arrive at the airport in the evening or at midnight we will ask you to stay inside the airport and travel next day morning. If we need to pick up the volunteer from the Airport to our Project They should pay Extra 80€ for the Transport.
