Our Organization

Solidarité Jeunesse Vietnam (SJ Vietnam) is an international youth NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) that promotes values of solidarity, peace and tolerance through youth citizenship projects to improve society during and after the voluntarism.

It was set up in 2004 by international and Vietnamese volunteers with the coordination of Mr Pierre De Hanscutter and Miss Do Thi Phuc. SJ Vietnam is managed by and for young volunteers with the support of UNDP Vietnam at the beginning. SJ Vietnam is an independent Vietnamese branch of SJ France, a full member of CCVIS (UNESCO), NVDA, and  a guest member of Alliance.

SJ Vietnam is an independent, non-political and non-religious organization open to everybody without any distinction of nationality, race, philosophy, financial resource, education or sex. In 2009, SJ Vietnam officially hosted 500 international volunteers and counted 3256 local members aged between 15 and 35 years old.

By developing international volunteering, we aim to:

  • Work towards a society of justice, peace and solidarity.
  • Break cultural misunderstanding between people and nations.
  • Improve local and global environment, provide informal education, help to reduce poverty and strengthen human rights
  • Encourage young people to participate actively in the society in which they live.

SJ Vietnam organizes short-and long-term workcamps and projects, actions of social integration, training activities and international solidarity actions.

All volunteers, both Vietnamese and international, are warmly welcomed to join and participate in the projects provided by SJ Vietnam. Furthermore, Vietnamese volunteers are sent abroad to participate in volunteering projects of partner organizations all over the world.

Workcamps
Organized by SJ Vietnam usually in or around Hanoi aim to provide an experience that connects solidarity, intercultural learning and community life in order to help disadvantaged and disabled adults and children from many different backgrounds.

Special workcamps
Festivals and events set up for Vietnamese festivals such as the International Children’s Day, the Mid-Autumn festival, Christmas and Tet holiday. SJ Vietnam organizes events to celebrate these meaningful occasions for less-fortuned children and adults to give them equal opportunities, happiness and lots of smiles.

Long-term Volunteer Projects
Long-term projects (from 1 to 12 months) are organized in Ha Noi, Hai Duong, Nam Dinh in a range of positions including website management, office work, teaching, environmental and social work to support sustainable development. Long-term volunteers live and work like local people. In 2009, SJ Vietnam started to host EVS (European Voluntary Service) volunteers.

Training courses, seminars and conferences
SJ Vietnam organizes regular workshops, seminars, conferences and training for its members or for active volunteer members of a partner organization abroad. These training sessions provide knowledge to young volunteers about conflict management, leadership, intercultural learning and volunteering skills, sexual health, etc.

Sending Vietnamese volunteers abroad
Through a network of international partners, SJ Vietnam offers Vietnamese volunteers chances to join workcamps and LTV projects abroad. SJ Vietnam is the only sending organization in Vietnam.
