About the local hosting organization

United Planet Tanzania is a volunteer-powered and non-profit organization which registered under the NGOs Act of 2002 as a Tanzania-based NGO in 2009 with registration number 00NGO/00002914 and became a National Committee of ICYE, a federation-network with over 55 country members in Africa, Latin America, Pacific Asia and Europe; that provides challenging intercultural learning experiences to young people, enhancing their social and personal development through international volunteering program.

Presentation of the program

Volunteers are welcome to support the orphanage in all areas, depending on their interests and skills, including:
• Childcare;
• Organizing life skills session for young adolescents
• Helping to prepare a meal i.e. lunch
• Playing with the kids;
• Supporting the management with accounts and project development.
Working hours:
• Start time: 9:00 am
• Break time: flexible
• End time: 4:00 pm
The main challenges to expect are that the children come from different backgrounds and lived through tough experiences, so this placement is ideal for volunteers who are adaptable and are willing to learn how to deal with these difficulties.

About the accommodation

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging) Volunteers will stay with host families.  Depending on the location of the host family, volunteers will walk or take a bus to the project.

About the location

They have two branches in Dar es Salaam; the oldest one found at Sinza, a very lively area, with plenty of bars and clubs. Young Tanzanians love to go out in this area during the weekend. The second one found at Mbezi outside of the city but not at the village.

The project is located near to Milimani City Mall, one of the biggest malls in Dar es Salaam, also close to University of Dar es Salaam and Mwenge handcrafts market.

Requirements

This project is suitable especially to unskilled volunteers who:
 Are at least 18 years of age at the time of arrival;
 Have a good knowledge of spoken and written English;
 Enjoy spending time with children and youth.

Extra information

Duration: 4 weeks to 6 months

Fees:
4 weeks = 500 €
8 weeks = 800 €
12 weeks = 1100 €
Every additional week = 75 €
