About the local hosting organization
YMCA Dublin is a community-based charity organisation providing vital services and dedicated support to individuals and families since 1849. We are located in the heart of communities and connect with and support the local community through targeted programs and community engagement opportunities.
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to belong to healthy, confident, secure and connected communities. We operate as a social enterprise at our city centre hub by providing access to affordable, community-based childcare at scale, and catering to the breadth of families across our community, from full fee-paying parents to fully sponsored children. Our unique approach couples high-quality, accessible childcare with sustainable community spaces and youth work services for young people, which we achieve through investment of internal surpluses and partnering with other agencies and state funders.
Our approach works through supporting mind, body and spirit. We work in and with communities to support and empower individuals, children and young people to develop the skills, experiences, relationships and behaviours for healthy, confident and successful futures. In all we do, we employ evidence based methodologies, supported by transparent accountability and management structures.
Presentation of the program
The European Solidarity Corps Children and Youth Services Volunteer will join YMCA Dublin full-time for 9.5 months, supporting children and young people (ages 4–24) across after school clubs, youth work, mentoring and educational interventions. The role involves building positive relationships, co-creating and facilitating inclusive activities (academic, recreational, skill-based), supporting school collections, maintaining records, and acting as a positive role model. Volunteers are encouraged to share their own skills (e.g. arts, sports, music, STEAM, cooking) to enhance services. Volunteers will support delivery of services that reflects the values and ethos of YMCA Dublin, and act as a positive role model for children and young people. Opportunities are available in our branches in Aungier Street, Dublin 2 and in Parkside Dublin 13, and De Verdon Place, Dublin 17.
About the accommodation
Volunteers will be hosted by local families, and provided travel expenses and/or a bicycle if desired. Volunteers will receive a food allowance and pocket money every two weeks into their bank accounts.
About the leisure
The volunteer will receive training for their position from the YMCA Dublin. They will also receive residential training from Leargas to support the volunteering experience. The volunteer will receive regular support and supervision sessions with their supervisor and will also be appointed a mentor. The volunteer will participate in a full induction programme, which will include basics in Inclusive practice, Child Safeguarding, youth mental health & resiliance, trauma-informed practice, and playwork.
