About the local hosting organization

Agape Centre of Hope plays a crucial role in developing public schools and Ngong community in Kenya by contributing their time, skills, resources, and expertise to various aspects of schools, community and youth improvement. Here are some ways in which our organizations can contribute to the development of public schools in Kenya: if you are a student intern, family or group of volunteers interested, then don’t waste time Agape centre of hope is looking for volunteers’ internship students to join us in the following activities in our office and schools.

This project welcomes both volunteers and internship also group volunteering both students cooperates and seniors.

To effectively develop public schools in Kenya, volunteer organization and community members collaborate with local education authorities, school administrators, teachers, Education County Director, Ministry Of Education, parents, and community members. They should tailor their efforts to the specific needs and priorities of each school and community, ensuring that their interventions are sustainable and have a lasting impact.

Presentation of the program

Possible tasks of the volunteers :

1. Infrastructure Development : Volunteers can help build, repair, and renovate school facilities such as classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and sanitation facilities. This could involve construction work, painting, plumbing, and electrical work ;

2. Educational Support : Volunteers can provide tutoring, mentoring, and academic support to students. They can assist teachers in delivering lessons, organizing educational activities, and conducting workshops on various subjects ;

3. Supply and Resource Donations : Volunteer organizations can collect and distribute educational materials, books, stationary, and other supplies to schools that are in need ;

4. Health and Nutrition Programs : Volunteers can run health and nutrition programs, providing students with regular check-ups, health education, and access to nutritious meals ;

5. Technology Integration : Volunteers with IT skills can help set up computer labs, provide technical support, and train both students and teachers in using technology for educational purposes ;

6. Sports and Extracurricular Activities : Volunteers can organize sports events, arts and crafts workshops, and other extracurricular activities that enhance pupils overall development ;

7. Community Engagement : Volunteers can work with local communities to raise awareness about the importance of education, encourage parental involvement, and foster a sense of ownership and responsibility for school development.

8.Environmental Initiatives : Volunteer organizations can engage in environmental projects such as tree planting, waste management, and promoting eco-friendly practices within the school ;

9. Fundraising and Advocacy : Volunteers can help raise funds for school projects, infrastructure improvements, and educational initiatives. They can also advocate for policy changes and increased government support for public schools ;

10. Counselling and Guidance : Volunteers with counselling skills can provide guidance and support to learners, helping them address personal and academic challenges ;

11. Language and Cultural Exchange : International volunteer organizations can facilitate cultural exchange programs, allowing leaners and teachers to learn about different cultures and languages ;

12. Teacher Training : Volunteers with expertise in education can conduct training sessions for teachers to enhance their teaching methodologies, classroom management skills, and subject knowledge ;

13. Networking and linkages : Volunteer with expertise or experience in marketing, IT social media handle update, promotion LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, twitter website maintenance and update, fundraising for Ngong Community Recourse Centre project ;

14. Sports: volunteering with expertise experience or interested in football coaching, handball and mentoring women and boys.

About the food

During your stay on this project food will be provided by your host family, volunteers will be provided with three meals a day (break fast, lunch and dinner), food will be prepared by the host with the help of volunteers. Most foods are locally made and fresh produced.

About the leisure

Ngong, located in Kajiado County, offers several attractive and beautiful places for volunteers to visit during their leisure time. Here are a few highlights:
1. Ngong Hills  Known for its stunning panoramic views, fresh air, and expansive grasslands, perfect for hiking and relaxation.
2. Oloolua Nature Trail: A serene forest with walking trails, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife, ideal for nature lovers.
3. Kazuri Beads: A visit to this socially responsible pottery and bead-making workshop offers a chance to learn about local craftsmanship while supporting a good cause.
4. Sekenani Gate, Maasai Mara: Though a bit farther, it offers a great opportunity to experience the world-famous Maasai Mara Reserve and its wildlife.
5. Kyamwilu Hill: A scenic spot for picnics and unwinding, offering a quiet retreat with breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley.
These locations provide a mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and opportunities for relaxation.

Requirements

How long can I participate in one of the ACoH projects?

ACoH offers projects of different durations. Our monthly Work camps last for 3 weeks. Medium and Long Term projects last from one month up to one year. Many volunteers also choose to participate in a Work camp first, before starting a Medium or Long Term Placement.

Can I come together with a friend?

Yes, you can come with your friends. Usually we try not to place too many people from the same country in one project. If you want to be placed together with a friend, please indicate it clearly be in the applications for the both of you.

Do I need vaccinations?

Yes, most likely you need vaccinations. Depending on your country of residence, you are required to take some vaccinations before you can enter Kenyan. You should contact your preferred medical practice to be consulted on all medical issues. Please prepare on time, as some vaccinations need several injections.

How long will the process take?

Once you have applied for a placement, the process will take approximately one month. This is to allow time for volunteers to complete pre-departure briefing, along with all the necessary logistics such as arranging visas, work permits and medical checks.

Meeting point

Arrival Terminal At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Nairobi.

Orientation: Orientation meeting will take place in Nairobi before proceeding to the project.

Day 1: Arrival and pick up from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in Nairobi, Kenya and transfer to host family home or hostel.

Day 2: Morning: registration and start of orientation. About 4 hours lecture at the home of your host. Topics covered during orientation lecture will include East African culture, history, customs, politics, geography, and necessary health precautions, and various other topics, such as the diversity of Kenyan life.

Afternoon is free for exploring rural Kenyan life and getting to know your host family.

How do ACoH placements work?

We place both skilled and unskilled volunteers with local partner organizations, from grassroots groups to institutions, to build their capacity and ability.

This delivers long-term improvements and helps countries and communities to help themselves. ACoH volunteers use their skills to improve quality and access to essential services give people a voice and help influence policy makers to implement effective policies.

No, you don’t need special skills to volunteer. However, ACoH has some requirements to be fulfilled by its volunteers:  One needs to be above 18 years from (If you are below 18 years you need a written consent from a guardian); A positive attitude towards independent progress of others; A willingness to adapt to local conditions; A desire to interact and understand other people’s culture and philosophy of life; Be open-minded and willing to freely exchange ideas, information and experiences without imposing your own values on others.

These simple ideas will make your time in Kenya a great success for you, your project and the community.

Participation fee: 1300 Euros per months (12 months).

The project fee or extra fee includes: Airport pick up, airport transfer, food, accommodation and host, transport from Nairobi to the project and back to Nairobi after the project, city tour, 2 days host In Nairobi on your arrival and last day after project, 24 hours Agape Centre Of Hope Office support and project monitoring and the purchase of some of the materials usefull for the projects (mostly construction materials).

For projects that take place in shools/educative structures:

Term 1 January to April,

Term 2 May to August,

Term 3 October to November.

This Project runs all year round and is open for applications at all times.
