About the local hosting organization
Subir al Sur, founded in 2006, is an Argentinian NGO, promoting peace and intercultural education through voluntary service. Subir al Sur organises work camps as well as mid and long-term individual volunteering projects (including EVS), and is a member of CCIVS, the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations, and a former member of Youth Action for Peace. In summer 2012, merged with the Fundación SES, a NGO founded in 1998, promoting and developing different strategies that strive for the inclusion of teenager and youngsters with fewer opportunities. The four main focus areas are: Education, Employment, Youth-Centred Activities, and Networking and Alliances. Subir al Sur became a member of ICYE in 2017.
Presentation of the program
Bosque Urbano is a project created by students of the Universidad de San Martín
13 years ago. They present it as a “living laboratory”, whose main objective is to
preserve the biological heritage and promote food sovereignty. It was created with
the objective of developing outreach and awareness activities so that the community
can understand, listen and learn from nature in order to improve and create a world
with environmental justice. It has a size of 3200 metres square.
PROJECT’S ACTIVITIES:
-Support in the daily gardening and gardening tasks
-Collaborate in infrastructure improvement and general maintenance
-Get involved in the planning and implementation of recreational and educational
activities related to the environment.
VOLUNTEER’S TASKS:
- Sustainability tasks: they help organize and lead workshops or activities focused on
eco-friendly practices, such as composting, recycling, and sustainable gardening.
-Planting and caring for native plants: Volunteers work on planting native species,
maintaining gardens, and helping the ecosystem thrive. This includes watering
plants, pruning, and removing invasive species.
-General maintenance tasks: They assist with general maintenance of the urban
forest, such as cleaning pathways, repairing structures, and ensuring that the space
remains safe and welcoming.
In general, the task of the volunteers consists in collaborating with the maintenance
of the space, participating and assisting in weekly scheduled activities and
accompanying visitors who participate in them.
About the accommodation
Staying at the Subir al Sur house.
The Subir al Sur volunteer house is located at 1444 Las Acacias
Street, in the Floresta neighborhood (Buenos Aires City). The
projects take place in various locations across the City of
Buenos Aires and surrounding suburban areas. Total travel time
by public transportation can range from a minimum of 1 hour to
up to 2 and a half hours for the longest trips, depending on the
Project location. The project’s detailed location is specified in
its individual description.

COMMUNITY CONTEXT:
San Martín is a city in the Greater Buenos Aires area, located in Buenos Aires
Province, Argentina. It serves as the seat of the San Martín Partido and is a major
residential and commercial hub. The city features a mix of urban and suburban
environments, with a variety of parks, schools, and local businesses. San Martín is
well-connected to Buenos Aires through public transportation and highways. It has a
rich history, with significant growth and development in recent decades.

Extra information
We have 3 types of programmes: short term (ST) programmes (from 3 to 5 months) -
mid term (MT) programmes (from 6 to 8 months) - long term (LT) programmes (from 9
to 18 months). The volonteers can choose from these three durations.
• The monthly program fee is €420 (4 weeks).
• An extra week costs €90.
Argentina allows a stay of up to 90 days when entering as a tourist.
• Volunteers planning to participate in programs lasting longer than
three months must apply for special visas. Please consult the
Incoming team for specific requirements.
WORKING DAYS/ HOURS:
4 times per week minimum 5 hours per day.
To ensure a smooth integration process, volunteers receive ongoing support
throughout their experience. This includes guidance from a dedicated volunteer
coordinator, direct communication with a project responsible, and access to 2
WhatsApp groups for real-time connection not only with the program (integrated by
general coordinator, volunteer’s group coordinator and volunteers) team but also with
the project (integrated by general coordinator, volunteer’s group coordinator, project
responsible, volunteers who are part of the project) . These support structures help
facilitate collaboration, address concerns, and strengthen the volunteer’s role within
the project.
