About the local hosting organization
Cannan Orphanage is a lifesaving facility located in Bombolulu Estate, along the Malindi Mombasa Highway. It serves a large community and was established in 2010, becoming officially registered in 2011. The orphanage supports vulnerable orphans, particularly those affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Cannan Orphanage is currently home to 62 children, aged between 1 and 17 years, many of whom have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS or have been abandoned. Mama Risper Ayub, who founded the orphanage, has been a devoted caregiver, taking care of these children and ensuring their emotional, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing.
Presentation of the program
The following are the key roles and responsibilities of volunteers and staff at Cannan Orphanage :
• Healthcare Support: Regular medical check-ups for children, health education within the orphanage, and outreach to elderly community members living under poor conditions ;
• Social Support: Trauma counselling and mental health support for children to help them rebuild their self-esteem and emotional stability ;
• Education Support: Providing educational opportunities, including vocational and technical training to older children ;
• Spiritual and Moral Guidance: Offering spiritual guidance and religious activities to promote responsible and moral behaviour in the children ;
• Nutrition: Ensuring the children are provided with nutritious meals to support their health and development ;
• Sponsorship Opportunities: Linking children to sponsors who can support their education and general welfare ;
• Advocacy: Promoting children’s rights and conducting awareness campaigns on issues like HIV/AIDS in the community ;
• Physical Welfare: Engaging children in physical activities, sports, and games as part of their overall development ;
• Guidance and counselling ;
• Communication skills training ;
• Helping in homework ;
• Helping in cleaning and washing of little kids.
Volunteers might be actively involved in the following activities :
• Medical Check-ups: Assisting with organizing health screenings for the children and outreach to elderly members of the community ;
• Counselling Support: Engaging with the children to provide emotional and psychological support ;
• Educational Assistance: Helping children with their schoolwork and homework, especially in subjects like English, Math, and Science ;
• Daily Chores: Assisting with cleaning, cooking, and general maintenance of the orphanage ;
• Sports and Games: Organizing physical activities and games for the children ;
• Child Rights Advocacy: Teaching the children about their rights and responsibilities, as well as promoting HIV/AIDS awareness within the local community.
The program runs throughout the year, and volunteers can participate for periods ranging from 1 to 12 months.
About the accommodation
About the food
During your stay on this project, food will be provided by your host family, volunteers will be provided with three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), food will be prepared by the host with the help of volunteers. Most foods are locally made and fresh.

Canaan Orphanage is located in Bombolulu Estate, along the Malindi-Mombasa Highway, Mombasa County, Kenya.
About the leisure
There are so many things to be don in the coast in mombasa, volunteers can plan for beach visits and many other activities done in the beach, visits historical places, plan for a safari or game drive in the famous masaai mara national reserve, Ambosele national park Tsavo east or west national reserve, etc.
Requirements
You'll need to meet certain requirements, including age, health, and attitude. You'll also need a passport and visa to enter the country.
1. Age: You must be at least 18 years old, or the age required by your program.
2. Language: You should be able to speak at least basic English, or the language required by your program.
3. Passport: You'll need a valid passport to enter Kenya.
4. Visa: You'll need a Single Entry Visa or tourist visa to volunteer in Kenya.
5. Travel insurance: You'll need to have travel and health insurance.
6. Background check: You may need to provide a criminal background check report.
7. Vaccinations: You may need to get certain vaccinations before entering Kenya.
8. Training: You may need to participate in training provided by your organization.
9. You should also be open-minded, flexible, and patient, and willing to step outside your comfort zone.
10. Above 18 years of age (If you are below 18 years you need written consent from a guardian).
11. A positive attitude towards independent progress of others.
12. A willingness to adapt to local conditions.
Meeting point
Arrival Terminal-Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Nairobi
Day 1: Arrival: Volunteers will be picked up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, and transported to either a host family home at Buruburu Estate in Nairobi or the hotel depending on the number of volunteers and availability of space.
Day 2: Morning: registration and start of Orientation: Orientation will take place in Nairobi before proceeding to the project and last orientation in Mombasa, and will cover:
• East African culture, customs, and history
• Kenyan politics, geography, and healthcare
• HIV/AIDS awareness and safety
• Necessary health precautions
Afternoons are free for volunteers to explore the local area and get to know their host families.

Additional requirements :
1. Some programs may have additional requirements, such as a registration fee or program fee ;
2. Medical volunteers may need to provide college enrollment documents ;
3. Volunteers working with children may need to provide a criminal background check report.
Participation fee :
400 Euros per person (3 weeks). The project fee or extra fee includes Airport Pick up, Airport Transfer, food, accommodation and host, transport from Nairobi to the project and back to Nairobi after the project, city tour, orientation, 2 days host in Nairobi on the arrival and end of the project and 24 hours Agape Centre Of Hope Office Support and project monitoring.
This project runs all round the year is open for applications at all times.
