About the local hosting organization
The main objective of CONSIPE, Centro de Educación Integral is to provide their students, which are boys and girls with intellectual disabilities or learning problems, with the opportunity to achieve the objectives of each stage of development.
CONSIPE follows pathways identical to those of regular schools to help achieve greater equality of opportunity within society and allow children to get a job or a career once they are older.
CONSIPE works with specific problems in different areas: phonetic, psychological, psycho- pedagogical, physiotherapeutic and others.
Presentation of the program
The centre works with two different gorups: intellectual disabilities and learning problems.
Mornings: 8:00 am. to 12:30 pm. take care of individuals with intellecual disabilities aged betwwen 6 and 8 years old.
Afternoons; 14:00 pm. to 18:00 pm. work with individuals who have learning problems aged between 6 and 17 years old.
CONSIPE also welcomes children with severe problems in sensory perception of daily activities. They are treated in another divisions and parcticipate in workshops such as recycling paper and the 'Works Ceramic Painting & Clay'. These two sections are devoted exclusively to training in technical work of students with manual skills.
The volunteer is expected to support the children with their school activities and support them with their development through programs of social insertion and independence.
Requirements
The volunteer should be willing to work with children and have handicrafts skills. The volunteer should have full time availablility and some previous experience working with people with memntal health problems and/or disabilities. It is pivotal that the volunteer takes a lot of initiative.
