About the local hosting organization

CHANTIERS SOCIAUX MAROCAINS - CSM is a non-profit NGO. It was created in 10 October 1963 CSM is a network of 45 local groups in Morocco.
OUR VISION: Towards an inclusive society rich of volunteering culture and citizenship spirit
OUR MISSIONS: CHANTIERS SOCIAUX MAROCAINS – CSM works for: Awareness of the importance of volunteering and the need to its recognize and reinforce the values of citizenship and strengthen the capacity of the population to contribute to sustainable development.

Presentation of the program

This elder people home hosts about 40 elders (60 and +) and offers them accommodation, restoration, medical follow-up and protection.
Actions:
• Organize different activities in order to encourage social cohesion and integration.
• Provide them with legal assistance/council.
• Give orientation advice and help the development of lucrative activities.
• Rise awareness about elder’s mendicancy
Ambitions:
• Extend the project to another poverty-stricken region
• Create a “Regional observatory of elder people precariousness” and develop a database and monograph of elder people assistance
By working in this center, the international volunteers will be in contact with many locals and will have the opportunity to get to know Moroccan’s habits and ways of life and get involved in the community at work as well as on their spare-time.
Volunteers tasks:
• About 4 to 8 hours of work per day from Monday to Friday
• Take care of the elder people and accompany them in their daily tasks.
• Assist the realization of leisure activities and workshops
If the volunteers have any knowledge and/or interest in the matter, they can assist the paramedical staff.

About the accommodation

Basic accommodation and food in host family:
•Living with host family could be an experience of a life time.
•It’s an experience for anyone who want to learn and experience a different culture.
•Develop an understanding of why the culture is the way it is.
•Host family help you interact with the local community which increases your chances of making friends and contacts. You should be willing to become a part of your host family with the same right that is:
•You should be prepared to help with the daily household clean your room-help prepare meals or clean the dishes.
•You are required to participate in family activities show interest in the family function and celebrations help in the kitchen and play with children.
•You should also respect the timings refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol in the house

About the location

All our project is located in the capital of Morocco Rabat, so it is accessible via Taxi, Tram or Train.

About the leisure

Meeting people will make you feel right at home. Therefore, we will provide volunteers the opportunity to visit market places, Moroccan families and natural sites in groups or individually during their free time.
There will also be Project visits, where volunteer’s will have the opportunity to conduct activities as a group and meet current volunteers in other projects who can share their experiences.

Requirements

Morocco has 2 official languages, Arabic and Tamazight and Moroccan Arabic knowns as Darija is the spoken native. We will start with teaching Darija classes. Do not forget that English and French is widely spoken throughout the country. However, we urge the volunteers to learn and speak the local language, as it will open more doors for them.
There are some simple rules, which can help volunteers have a smooth integration with each other and with the local people. This will also help overcome the culture shock!
All volunteers are requested to bring items from their home such as photos, music, food, handicrafts, etc. that will help them present their country and culture to other volunteers as well as to the local youth and your Host Family.

Meeting point

Volunteers will have to arrive at Rabat airport or Rabat ville train station.
If You choose to arrive directly in Rabat Airport, we can arrange someone to pick you up for 150/200 dirhams, otherwise the meeting point will be Rabat Ville Train Station.
To get to the Rabat vile Train Station from the airport you can take the bus right outside the airport for 20 dirhams and it will leave you in front of the train station. With a taxi, it should cost you about 200 dirhams (price negotiable).
If you arrive in any other airport of the country, you will be able to reach Rabat by train.
Once you have your flights details please pass them by e-mail to your interlocutor so you can arrange with him/her the meeting point.

Extra information

The program will start with a 3 days’ orientation. The Orientation will be held our office in Rabat and is only for volunteers that apply from 3 Month to one year.
Volunteers are expected to complete and submit a Final Feedback report and Final Evaluation report at the end of their volunteering program. This details their work, progress, problems, solutions and suggestions for future volunteers and CSM Morocco. This report acts as a future resource and reference documents for new volunteers and enables CSM Morocco to further develop and improve the
CSM Morocco is a non-profit organization and does not depend on any public or external funding and all costs are sustained through the participation fees from volunteers. Therefore, volunteers are expected to pay the participation fee mentioned below besides all their personal costs needed to come to Morocco (travel / visa / vaccinations etc.). We work only with local organizations that need our support.
The Participation cost is 350 euro
Remember that the participation fee is non-refundable. Volunteers are therefore requested to carefully consider the duration of their program while applying.
If a volunteer has applied for more than three months, only the first three months’ fee is collected in the beginning.
If a volunteer has applied for less than three months, the entire participation fee is collected in the beginning.
The participation fee will be collected only for a full month and it is not possible to apply for half a month.
The Participation fee will be collected from the volunteers during the first three days of the orientation. The amount will be collected Moroccan dirhams or in euro.
