About the local hosting organization

Our school, the "Freie Montessorischule Stams" is based in an association and hosts a private school for children between 6 and 16 years. It is situated in the centre of the community Stams. Students, no matter what their age, are given the freedom to use their time as they wish, and the responsibility for designing their path to adulthood. Students from "Primaria" through "Sekundaria" age explore the world freely at their own pace and in their own unique ways. The children can do anything which develops their learning, because children learn everything they need for their future life at this school. They are usually at the school from 7:45 until 12:45 and use this time to learn.

Presentation of the program

Arche Tirol is a community of people with and without disabilities. Arche Tirol was founded in 1992 and is a Christian-ecumenical community. In our daily routine here is place for spirituality. The work in Arche considers the UN convention for people with disabilities. Currently, 10 people with a disability are accompanied in two houses, one in Steinach am Brenner and one in St. Jodok (a few kilometres distance). Arche takes in people with disabilities at the age of 18. Currently, four people with mental and multiple disabilities live in the Arche House in Steinach and six live in St. Jodok. Our main philosophy is not only to provide care, but also to offer a community, personal relationships and a home. Website: https://www.arche-tirol.at/

About the accommodation

- Private room in St. Jodok, based in a building where other employees of Arche and cohabitants live - Common facilities like kitchen, laundry room, etc. are in use of everyone - Daily pocket money of 7 Euros plus costs for groceries and personal needs is provided - St. Jodok is a rural landscape with little infra-structure; it takes about 30 minutes by bus or train to Innsbruck Centre. - a ticket for using public transport will be provided (The border to Italy is just around the corner, so you can get to know Italy as well and go hiking a lot).

About the leisure

- To engage with the process of living in this community - Communication, support through daily routines (administrative, planning), interaction with our cohabitants - Participating on projects and creating one on your own (with professional support) - To learn what it means to have disabilities and how people (whether they do have or not) interact in a respectful way with each other - 35 hours per week (including a german language course) - Different working schedule each month (which you will get informed about two weeks in advance)

The Participant profile: - Between 18 and 30 years - Fully focused on the volunteering program (means no studies or other work contracts ) - Interest in people/ the target group - Open-minded personality - Ready to deal with responsibilities which requires the work we do - High motivation for our projects, approach of humanity and our target group

The project is implemented under the European Solidarity Corps Programme, financed by the European Commission.
The participating organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting hosting environment. At the same time, the organisations participating in the initiative devote a great deal of time, energy and resources to set up a high-quality activity; they should therefore expect that European Solidarity Corps participants show a similar level of respect for the local communities and the people that are directly concerned by the activities (https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/mission_en).
