About the local hosting organization

Wingerdbloei vzw is a Non Governmental Organisation, located in Antwerp (Flanders - Belgium), for minor girls (from 3 till 21 years old) and boys (from 16 up till 21) whose families face a broader range of difficulties. We have about 90 residential places for children and youngsters who can't be living in their homes because of this challenges. Next to the residential care, we also help many families withing the family context. Several youngsters of our targetgroup are under the supervision of a Belgian juvenile judge who takes the decisions over the minors. The problems and situations our youngsters face cover a wide area from behavioural problems, agression, emotional difficulties, lack of personal hygiene, family violence, abuse or neglect, traumatic experiences, broken familiy ties, ,... Some of them committed criminal offences. Wingerdbloei is always open to progressive ideas or experimenting new projects. Since 2016 we also have two groups with minor refugees that live in two different houses.

Presentation of the program

Are you ready for a meaningful adventure abroad? Would you like to make a difference to young people in Belgium? Join Wingerdbloei, a dynamic youth care organization in Antwerp, Belgium! We support children and teens (ages 3–21) facing tough challenges - family issues, trauma, behavioral struggles or refugee backgrounds - helping them grow into strong, independent individuals. As a volunteer, you’ll be a trusted companion and role model, bringing fresh energy and perspective as a motivated, open-hearted young person from abroad. Your presence can truly inspire our youngsters and be impactful! You’ll help by: Organizing fun activities: games, crafts, sports, cooking, cultural nights, … Accompanying youth on outings, appointments, or camps. Assisting with daily tasks: meals, shopping, setting up events. Launching your own creative ideas: we love new initiatives that enrich the lives of our young people. About the accommodation

2 Volunteers are hosted together in a cosy apartment with all necessary accommodation and a good internet connection. Volunteers eat with the youth during activities and receive monthly 280 euro additional as a food allowance. You'll get 6 euro a day as pocket money. We provide traveling by public transport or by bicycle.

About the leisure

This is more than volunteering. It’s a life-changing experience. You will gain hands-on experience in youth care and the non-profit sector. You'll grow in independence, adaptability, and intercultural understanding. You'll immerse yourself in Belgian and Flemish culture. Your language skills will improve  (Dutch, English, or maybe French!) You’ll not only support others. You’ll grow as a young European citizen and can become inspiring for other young people.

The project is implemented under the European Solidarity Corps Programme, financed by the European Commission.
The participating organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting hosting environment. At the same time, the organisations participating in the initiative devote a great deal of time, energy and resources to set up a high-quality activity; they should therefore expect that European Solidarity Corps participants show a similar level of respect for the local communities and the people that are directly concerned by the activities (https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/mission_en).
