Presentation of the program

The local municipality is planning to make improvements to local kindergartens and schools in the surroundings of this village. The group of construction workers needs help because they have a lot of important work to do for the social projects in the summer, but they don't have enough volunteers to help them. That's why we hold a work camp there every year. It's a great way to learn by doing, using craft tools, and seeing the children using the spaces you will renovate or construct. Your specific tasks will be the construction of a recycling station and a sandbox for children at the indoor swimming pool as well as the creation and construction of raised beds for a kindergarten. Work is instructed by a professional so no previous experience is needed. You work for 30h a week between 8 a.m. and 4 a.m., Monday to Friday. You'll be divided into smaller task groups throughout the day.

About the accommodation

You are staying at Horb's Culture Centre "Kloster" with camp beds provided for sleeping. There is also WiFi and washing machines available if necessary. Please make sure to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow if needed. There are also toilets and a kitchen and dining room in the cultural centre. For showering, you can walk apprximately 5 mintues to the town's swimming pool. The volunteers are responsible for grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning up. Food will be purchased with the camp budget and tasks will be distributed the first days to ensure everyone participates.

About the leisure

Horb am Neckar is a beautiful town with 25.300 inhabitants, located on the banks on the Neckar river and surrounded by green hills. Horb is about 900 years old! You will feel its long history when exploring the town center. Between the church overlooking the town, the half-timbered houses, the old towers and gates and the narrow paved alleys, you will find many interesting and pretty sights there as well as nice cafés, bars and shopping possibilities. On the weekends you will be able to visit further places in the region and get to know the local community.

The project is implemented under the European Solidarity Corps Programme, financed by the European Commission.
The participating organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting hosting environment. At the same time, the organisations participating in the initiative devote a great deal of time, energy and resources to set up a high-quality activity; they should therefore expect that European Solidarity Corps participants show a similar level of respect for the local communities and the people that are directly concerned by the activities (https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/mission_en).
