About the local hosting organization

Activités : La Croix-Rouge française (CRF) a pour vocation de prévenir et d'apaiser toutes les souffrances. En France, à travers ses 950 unités associatives, elle anime et initie toute l'année des actions de solidarité (aide alimentaire et vestimentaire, SAMU sociaux, hébergement d'urgence...), de protection de l'enfance (lutte contre l'illettrisme, accueil mère-enfant...), de lutte contre la solitude des seniors et contre les violences. Auxiliaire des pouvoirs publics, la Croix-Rouge Française intervient lors de catastrophes naturelles et de situations d'exception (tempêtes et inondations en France). Avec ses 678 établissements, la Croix-Rouge française dispose d’un réseau sans équivalent de services adaptés, dans les champs social, médico-social, sanitaire et de formation. Membre du plus grand mouvement humanitaire mondial (188 sociétés nationales), elle compte 18 000 salariés et environ 60 000 bénévoles.

Presentation of the program

As part of a dynamic team of volunteers and staff, the volunteer will take part in the association’s activities. Their main role will be to animate actions to young isolated migrants to access services, leisure and culture to better integrate the local community. The volunteer will team up with another European solidarity corps volunteer and one or two French Civic Service volunteers. Together, they will accompany some minors to their appointments (administration, health, school…) and invest in these moments together to exchange, understand their desires, needs and expectations. Host a daily drop-in center for minor migrants with coffee, tea, biscuits, games and a moment to talk and feel at ease. Put in place collective actions (sports activities, cultural outings, debates on the news, games, initiations to sports of the country of origin ...) with young French Red Cross volunteers and other actors of the territory: sports associations, cultural institutions, etc

About the accommodation

The volunteer will live in an individual 20m² small apartment with a small kitchen and a bathroom located in the same building as another Europeen solidarity Corps volunteer. They will receive pocket money and money to buy food. They will be provided with a public transportation card and a a bike.

About the leisure

The volunteer will take part in the following trainings: “Croix-Rouge Bienvenue” and training on gender-based and sexual violence First aid course (1 day) Migration training: what is migration and how to welcome migrants (1/2 day) + asylum claim training. Training on the French Red Cross internal tools and systems French language courses: 2-hour group course + 1.5- hour individual course Civic and Citizenship Training Psychological First Aid An Individual coaching can be offered depending on the profil of the volunteer

Requirements

The Participant profile: We are looking for : A very social person, willing to socialise a lot with French people of all ages and backgrounds. Creative with an original mind and willing to take initiatives Autonomous and able to pass from idea to action quickly once you have a “go” signal Speak at least a little French, as the minor migrants are almost all French-speaking young persons Empathetic but able to keep an emotional distance with the public Emotional maturity and patience Available the whole duration of the project

The project is implemented under the European Solidarity Corps Programme, financed by the European Commission.
The participating organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting hosting environment.
