About the local hosting organization
We are a youth & cultural center with the main focus on inclusion not only of refugees and migrants, but of marginalized young people in general. Thus, among other things, we promote LGBT+ equality, but also gender equality.
In order to raise awareness among young people in this regard, we not only have many intensive conversations with young people, but also offer workshops, or other collaborative activities where young people can learn with and from each other and are able to overcome prejudices.
Furthermore, the education of young people about health and sustainability are important topics for us. Therefore we also offer workshops about these topics and to practically raise emphasis for a healthy diet, we cook together with the young people.
For our even younger visitors (kids below 13), we offer teen afternoons where kids can let their creativity run free.
Once a month we have a major event. These are mostly live concerts where we can support young bands, but other events are also given, for example such as a flea market to promote sustainability.
In order to discover new skills of the young people and thus also to strengthen their self-confidence, young people have the opportunity to work with us in our bike workshop, where again young people can bring their bikes for repair and maintenance.
Afternoon programs consisting of various things such as, games, tournaments, music, cooking, outdoor activities together and much more are our main activities.
Presentation of the program
For 25 years our youth and culture center has been welcoming young people for volunteering projects in the beautiful city of Salzburg. Our center is a welcoming space where individuals aged 10-18 can express themselves freely, find support, celebrate their uniqueness and enjoy their leisure time.
We offer diverse spaces such as a music studio, a sports room, a kitchen, an outside area, an event room, and a stage and we organize activities like tournaments, games, open stages, concerts, our own radio show, workshops and school support if needed.
At our youth and cultural center, we embrace diversity and strive to create a supportive environment where all young individuals can thrive, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We are proud to be a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, promoting equality and empowerment for all.
Join us for volunteering in a welcoming space. Embracing diversity, promoting equality, and empowering young individuals.
About the accommodation
Local accommodation is provided just 5 minutes walking distance from the center.
Also an own bike for the volunteer is provided by the host organization for the duration of the project, which can be used for transport.
Furthermore the volunteer receives monthly food money from the host organization.
About the leisure
There is an On-arrival training and a Mid-term training for volunteers in Austria.
If the volunteer is interested in creating radio shows for the center, a radio workshop offered from a local radio station can be visited to learn the basics.
All costs for those are covered by the host organization.
Furthermore volunteers have the opportunity to visit German language courses during their stay. The costs for the language courses are partially covered by the host organization.
Requirements
The Participant profile: We welcome passionate volunteers who are interested in youth development, cultural activities and inclusivity.
Good communication skills, responsibility, empathy, creativity, and the ability to foster a safe and inclusive environment are important skills. Volunteers have the opportunity to develop their own ideas for projects and activities which can be implemented during the "general youth center times". We would appreciate basic German knowledge to be able to communicate with the visitors of the center. Additionally, we are looking for someone versed in the ways of social media, to help us grow our online presence on platforms such as Tiktok, Snapchat, ect.
Join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of young people in Salzburg.
