About the local hosting organization
Charles University, founded in 1348, consists of 17 faculties. 9000 employees work there, 50000 students are enrolled in 380 programs, and nearly 9,000 foreign students come every year. The priorities of the University are to ensure high quality of teaching, research, and international cooperation. It is ranked number 218 in Best Global Universities, and number 288 in QS World University Rankings.
The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, one of the youngest faculties, will coordinate the volunteering activities. Its mission is to educate professionals in sport and physical education (for children, adults, and seniors, with and without special needs), military physical education, civil protection education, sport management, recreation, and physiotherapy.
The University aims to enrich the way of fulfilling its third role (responsibility towards society). Therefore, it shares knowledge and creates space for public discussion on current topics, which leads to the decision to apply for the Quality Label. The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport offers knowledge on sports and healthy lifestyle activities. Long-term experience has proved that sports events unite people regardless of their age, nationality, or limitation of any kind by building friendly and informal relationships and creating cooperations. Moreover, personal happiness and satisfaction level has been increased, which the young generation is regarding as a high-priority topic.
Presentation of the program
The volunteering project at Charles University’s Faculty of Physical Education and Sport offers international volunteers the chance to engage in meaningful, culturally enriching activities that promote solidarity, inclusion, and healthy lifestyles. Volunteers participate in three main areas: sharing cultural experiences and perspectives on volunteering, co-organizing informal community events, and supporting student engagement through open communication and feedback. They also collaborate with the university-wide Volunteering Centre, strengthening ties across faculties and contributing to broader civic engagement. The initiative fosters a supportive campus environment and empowers students and volunteers to actively shape university life and society.
About the accommodation
Accommodation is offered in shared (2-person) lockable rooms at our faculty dormitory, with access to a bathroom. Rent is approx. 90 EUR/month (in CZK paid in cash or by bank transfer in CZK). Volunteers receive up to 500 EUR monthly allowance, from which they cover the accommodation costs. Food is at the volunteer’s expense, but an affordable faculty canteen is available at the faculty. Public transport within Prague is also covered by the volunteer. We provide financial support for travel to and from the Czech Republic, based on distance; this may not fully cover actual costs.
About the leisure
Volunteers will join the International Students Team, made up of Czech and international students who act as mentors and support integration through shared activities. A project coordinator oversees the project, volunteer tasks, schedule, and arrangements. Volunteers can regularly consult with both mentors and the coordinator. Personal meetings will be held regularly to discuss their role, progress, and feedback. They have the opportunity to attend Czech language lessons at the faculty and will also take part in on-arrival and mid-term training organized by the National Agency.
Requirements
The Participant profile: We are looking for motivated and open-minded volunteers who are passionate about community engagement, intercultural exchange, and promoting solidarity. Ideal participants should be willing to work in an international environment, take initiative, and contribute creatively to informal events and student activities. No specific academic background is required, but an interest in volunteering, youth work, or education is welcome. Volunteers should be ready to communicate in English and be respectful of cultural diversity. A positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to learn and collaborate with others - including local students, international peers, and staff - are essential. Participants should be comfortable living in shared accommodation and managing basic daily responsibilities, including travel and food expenses.
This opportunity is especially suitable for individuals who are proactive, enjoy social interaction, and wish to gain experience in a university setting that values inclusion, healthy lifestyles, and personal development.
