Presentation of the program

Join a 9 month volunteering experience in rural Latvia starting this July/August! Support children (ages 1.5–6) as they grow, play, and explore nature. Be part of daily preschool life and outdoor forest activities. Our project focuses on three big themes: green thinking & sustainability, social inclusion & community growth, and creative use of digital tools. You'll also have the chance to run workshops for locals — teenagers and adults alike - from arts and sports to languages, robotics, or digital skills. We offer a safe, inspiring space with passionate educators, nature all around, and freedom to shape your own experience. We have a really cool boxing and well as regular gym just around the corner, a possibility to sing in a latvian choir, lakes and nature paths all around the city and bus/train lines connected to our capital Riga so you can explore city life in the weekends! About the accommodation

Volunteers will share a flat with another volunteer (so it is 2 volunteers in total). You will have a separate bedroom, shared kitchen, living room and bathroom. The flat has all there might be needed (washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, iMac for some movie screening 🙂 Travel is covered by ESC rules based on distance as calculated in the Erasmus+ distance calculator. In Preili, everything is within a walkable distance. Volunteers will be supported and involved in our activities as well as encouraged to find and pursue their passions and interests in free time.

About the leisure

Volunteers receive on-arrival training from NA and ongoing support from preschool and school teachers and the community around us. Additionally, there are meetings with the project coordinator to set learning goals and aims for learning in all aspects (personal, professional, interpersonal). Some volunteers after the project have become excellent preschool teachers who went to study this field at the university, some took totally different paths, but all have learned and developed.

Requirements

The Participant profile: The person who likes kids is open and outgoing in learning to communicate and jump into action. Likes the great outdoors. A person who wants to experience some type of mild Nordic weather living, meet spring with open arms and experience a summer of the unknown. If you feel ready for action and learning with some active and creative, kids, then this is for you.

The project is implemented under the European Solidarity Corps Programme, financed by the European Commission.
The participating organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting hosting environment. At the same time, the organisations participating in the initiative devote a great deal of time, energy and resources to set up a high-quality activity; they should therefore expect that European Solidarity Corps participants show a similar level of respect for the local communities and the people that are directly concerned by the activities (https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/mission_en).
