About the local hosting organization

Sunnahof is a limited liability company and an affiliated company from an association founded 1967, called “Lebenshilfe Vorarlberg”. Sunnahof is situated in Göfis, near Feldkirch. Our general principle is “people need people” no matter if you have any disabilities or not. Our work focuses on the uniqueness of each human being and the belief that the society depends on each individual person and each individual person depends on the society. Sunnahof is an institution for people with light intellectual disabilities and behaviour problems. Our core objective is to prepare this target group for the regular employment market. Therefore Sunnahof provides four biodynamic working areas with naturalistic working conditions. Those four working areas are: - agriculture - plant nursery - carpentry - gastronomy with a farm shop All together we engage over 50 people with intellectual disabilities and behaviour problems. Furthermore Sunnahof offers a housing service for 20 people with disabilities which include different possibilities of assistance. Our staff is educational and subject-specific trained a basic requirement for our concept. It enables us on the one hand to handle an agriculture with 60 hectare arable land and a lot of animals, to produce a variety of wooden products only per order, to receive about 5000 visitors per year in our gastronomy and to grow and sell 500 different species of plants. And on the other hand, it qualifies us to accompany people withd isabilities on their way to the regular employment market.

Presentation of the program

*PLEASE apply by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with your CV + letter of motivation! We are looking for a volunteer in the area of gastronomy with a farm shop. Sunnahof is a biodynamic farm as well as a social organisation. Our general principle is “people need people” no matter if you have any disabilities or not. As a volunteer at Sunnahof, you will gain invaluable experience for working with people with intellectual disabilities. You will learn a lot about disability issues and topics facing the local community. You will also learn how to work along with people with disabilities and how to increase their skills and promote their independence. At gastronomy you will also work in the farm shop.

About the accommodation

You will live in the house next to the organisation with the other volunteers. You will have your own room and share two bathrooms and the kitchen+living room with the others. During the week you will get your lunch served. In the morning, evening and at weekend you should cook by yourself/with the others. For this you will get extra food money to buy your groceries 🙂 The infrastructure with trains and buses is easy and quick and you will also have a bicycle at your disposal. Also, every volunteer will receive a ticket for free use of the public transport in the whole region of Vorarlberg!

About the leisure

The volunteer will have following trainings and opportunities: - On-arrival Training; organised by the NA Austria - Midterm-Meeting; organised by the NA Austria - 2 German Courses; organised by the supporting/coordinating organisation - Regular evaluation meetings together with the supporting/coordinating organisation - Regular meetings with your mentor in the hosting organisation

Requirements

The Participant profile: We are looking for open minded people who want to collect a lot of experiences in the daily work with people with intellectual disabilities and behaviour problems. We expect that the volunteer bring in a high motivation for the substantial work, especially for the work with people with disabilities. Moreover the volunteer has a stabilized personality so that they are able to encouraged and accompanied people with disabilities to realize their potential and abilities.

The project is implemented under the European Solidarity Corps Programme, financed by the European Commission.
The participating organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting hosting environment. At the same time, the organisations participating in the initiative devote a great deal of time, energy and resources to set up a high-quality activity; they should therefore expect that European Solidarity Corps participants show a similar level of respect for the local communities and the people that are directly concerned by the activities (https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/mission_en).
