Presentation of the program

Istituto Walden is a social cooperative that manages different houses and services for minors located in the island of Sicily. They are looking for ESC volunteers to support the educators in a shelter for young boys (13-18 years old) and children (0-10 years old) who are on a path towards rehabilitation and social inclusion. The youngsters live together in the shelter as a community and the volunteers will share part of their daily life. Tasks: - Support youngsters’ and childrens' education with afterschool activities (homework support, lessons of foreign language, educational workshops) - Create fun and engaging workshops: cooking, theatre, music... - Language exchange - Organize celebrations for special occasions/festivities - Manage the daily life in the community: prepare meals to share with everyone, keep the space clean and welcoming, help the residents with their everyday needs - Discover the town and surrounding area accompanying the youngsters on trips.

About the accommodation

Volunteers will work 5 days per week, for maximum of 35 working hours per week. They will have 2 consecutive days off and 2 additional free days per month. The days off cannot overlap with the days of other volunteers (meaning that the volunteers will not be able to take the days off together) and will not be the weekends. - Accommodation: Volunteers will share a flat in Menfi, with DOUBLE bedrooms, a kitchen, and 2 bathrooms. Pocket money of 6 euro per day will be provided plus 100 euro for a month for covering food expenses. The volunteers will have 5 meals per week in the community.
