About the local hosting organization
Hyria foundation provides versatile promotion of employability services and regional outreach-youth work. The purpose of Hyria foundation is to take care of prevention of social exclution for adults and young people. The foundation has a long tradition in sector of organizing regions labor market development activities. The main goals of all activities are versatile and high quality services for development and personal support for maintaining ability to work and study. The aim of the youth services is to help young people to realize their individual plans, to promote employment among the young and to make it easier to apply for studies. The services are mainly intended for unemployed youth with no vocational training or for those with vocational training but no work experience. The duration of service participation varies based on individual needs. The service period includes work at the workshops, work orientation and training. During the period, youths are given individual counselling e.g. on career choice matters. There works about 70 people in Hyria foundation in different tasks. The home town of the foundation is the City of Hyvinkää which is a town of 45 000 people in Northern Uusimaa, 50 km from Helsinki. Our services are available in 7 municipalities.
Presentation of the program
We are searching for two volunteers to work with us in Hyria Foundation's Youth services and Recycling center. The volunteers will be mainly working in different units but some of the work tasks will be carried out as a team.
We work mostly with unemployed youngsters and adults who may be facing challenges in controlling their everyday life, economic situation, or mental health. Volunteers will be working with our employees as an assistant workers. In both places work tasks include planning and arranging activities, guiding, supporting and encouraging clients and participating in basic work routines. In the recycling center work tasks may also include updating social media, store decoration, planning recycling processes or working in Kerkkä´s cafeteria. We have the possibility to adjust the worktasks according to volunteers own interests and stregths. In your application, please indicate whether you are more interested in working in youth services or at the recycling center.
About the accommodation
Volunteer will live in Hyvinkää in shared apartment with other volunteer. Each volunteer will get their own room. Food money and pocket money is paid monthly to volunteers own bank account. (Food money approx. 300€ and pocket money 7€/day). Travelling costs between accommodation and working place are covered (by train or by bus).
About the leisure
Volunteers will be able to participate in national trainings with other volunteers. Finnish language course is also provided. Each volunteer will be getting mentors who help with reflection.
Requirements
The Participant profile: We are looking for volunteers who are eager to work with people. Volunteers should be motivated to work with people whom can have problems with social exclusion, mental health, drug abuse or social obstacles. Any special skills or hobbies are useful such as arts, sports, nature, creativity, digital skills etc. Basics of English is an advantage.
We want to provide volunteering opportunities for youngsters from different backgrounds.
Unfortunately, all of our facilities are not accessible.
However, we do our best to find solutions to different situations.
