Die Roter Baum Berlin UG ist eine Nichtregierungsorganisation, die 2011 vom 1993 gegründeten Verein "Roter Baum" e.V. gegründet wurde. Unser Büro, aber auch unsere Projekte und Aktivitäten sind im Bezirk Marzahn-Hellersdorf angesiedelt. Die Ausrichtung unserer Aktivitäten steht in direktem Zusammenhang mit unseren lokalen Zielgruppen. Dieser Bezirk ist in der Stadt bekannt für seine hohe Arbeitslosenquote und den hohen Anteil an Familien, die von der Sozialhilfe abhängig sind, was ein Profil einer Bevölkerung mit niedrigem Lebensstandard ergibt. Außerdem wurden viele der Neuankömmlinge, die in den letzten zehn Jahren in Berlin aufgenommen wurden, in unserem Bezirk untergebracht. Die Tatsache, dass es sich um einen hoch multikulturellen Bezirk handelt, erhöht gewisse Schwierigkeiten bei der sozialen Integration der neuen Familien. Viele der Jugendlichen hier sind Schulabbrecher oder erreichen nach der Schulpflicht keine höheren Bildungsstufen. Wir möchten auch hinzufügen, dass, obwohl in den letzten Jahren linke Parteien eine deutliche Präsenz in der Regierung haben, Marzahn-Hellerdorf als einer der Hauptverfechter der Rechten in der deutschen Hauptstadt bekannt ist. Das Ziel von Roter Baum Berlin ist es, sich in die Unterstützung unserer jüngsten Community zu verwandeln, indem wir Projekte anbieten, die sie direkt einbeziehen und ihnen Werkzeuge an die Hand geben, um aus ihrer systemischen sozio-ökonomischen Situation und den Vorurteilen und Stereotypen auszubrechen, die sie seit frühester Kindheit direkt betreffen. Mit unseren Solidaritätsaktivitäten wollen wir Vorurteile abbauen, Rassismus bekämpfen, Solidarität und Vielfalt unter den Bürgern von Marzahn-Hellersdorf in lokalen, nationalen und internationalen Projekten verbreiten. Der Rote Baum Berlin hat eine breite Palette von Aktivitäten umgesetzt. Erstens gibt es die permanenten Projekte, die täglich im Bezirk arbeiten, zweitens die internationalen Projekte, die meist im Rahmen von Erasmus+ und der Mobilität von Freiwilligen mit ESC durchgeführt werden, und schließlich die einzelnen Veranstaltungen, die wir im Laufe des Jahres produzieren. Außerdem haben wir im letzten Sommer mit Unterstützung des Bezirks wieder Sommercamps für Kinder mit geringeren Chancen in der Stadt organisiert, nachdem wir sie einige Jahre lang aufgrund fehlender öffentlicher Zuschüsse nicht durchgeführt haben. Das Herzstück von Roter Baum Berlin ist die „zentrale“, ein Bildungs- und Beteiligungszentrum, in dem sich verschiedene kulturelle und politische Projekte zusammenfinden und den Raum für die Entwicklung lokaler Aktivitäten und internationaler Projekte nutzen. Hier entwickeln wir Ideen für zukünftige Projekte und beteiligen uns aktiv an der Umsetzung von Projektaktivitäten. Durch unsere Aktivitäten arbeiten wir mit verschiedenen nicht-formalen Jugendgruppen zusammen und helfen ihnen, ihr Partizipations- und Mobilitätsniveau zu erhöhen. Ein weiteres Projekt ist das Mehrgenerationen Buntes Haus, ein Mehrgenerationenbildungszentrum, das für alle Nachbarn unterschiedlichen Alters geöffnet ist. Hier arbeiten unsere Mitarbeiter täglich an der sozialen Integration und dem Wohlergehen der Nutzer, ob Kinder oder ältere Menschen, durch Projekte wie Familiencafé, Spielzimmer und Kinderbibliothek, Elternbetreuung und Spendenzentrum. Unser letztes dauerhaftes Projekt ist das Anna Landsberger - Internationales Jugendzentrum, ein pädagogischer Raum, in dem sich Jugendliche im Alter von 12-25 Jahren treffen. Hier können die Besucher ihre Interessen vor allem an politischer Bildung, städtischer Jugendkultur, Musik und Tanz, durch Methoden der offenen informellen Jugendarbeit entwickeln. Es gibt auch eine voll ausgestattete Bühne, auf der im Laufe des Jahres mehrere Musikveranstaltungen stattfinden und die Jugendlichen bei der Organisation von Veranstaltungen unterstützt werden. Das Projekt konzentriert sich hauptsächlich auf Programme für die lokale Jugend, Kultur und Lernprozesse, und es implementiert und beherbergt auch mehrere nationale Jugendlager und internationale Mobilitätsprojekte. Internationale Projekte sind transversal mit den zuvor erwähnten Aktivitäten verbunden, unsere Organisation hat Jugendmobilitäten und strategische Partnerschaften für Jugendaktivitäten seit 2006 angewandt und umgesetzt. Beispiele: Musik für Menschenrechte, Städtische Jugendkultur und Gemeinden, ORA: Natur im Rahmen, Offene Jugendarbeit für die offene Gesellschaft etc. Die meisten unserer internationalen Projekte konzentrieren sich auf die Jugendarbeit durch Musik und urbane Kultur als ein Werkzeug der Integration von Jugendlichen in ganz Europa und darüber hinaus. Sie verbreitet die Bedeutung der informellen und offenen Jugendarbeit in unserer Zeit. Seit 2010 hat Roter Baum rund 40 europäische Freiwillige aufgenommen und sie in unsere bereits erwähnten lokalen Dauerprojekte vermittelt. Mit ihnen haben wir einen beidseitigen Nutzen, sie sensibilisieren unsere Kinder und jugendlichen Nutzer für die vorhandene Vielfalt außerhalb der Grenzen ihres Landes und auch die Freiwilligen können sich in Bereichen entwickeln, die sie interessieren und in denen wir arbeiten. Roter Baum entwickelt in Partnerschaft mit der Gemeinde und anderen Organisationen, die sich auf die Jugend im Bezirk konzentrieren, musikalische und progressive Veranstaltungen: Schöner Leben ohne Nazis, Respekt und Neugier, eAction oder diveRcity. Ihr Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf der Schaffung von sozialem Zusammenhalt im Bezirk und der Verbreitung von Werten wie Respekt und Inklusion, Vielfalt und der Verbreitung von Nationalismus, insbesondere unter der jungen Bevölkerung. --- Roter Baum Berlin UG is a nongovernmental organisation founded in 2011 by "Roter Baum" e.V. created in 1993. Our office, and also our projects and activities are placed in the district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf. The placement of our activities are directly connected to our local target groups. This district is known in the city due to its high unemployment rate and high rate of families dependent on the social welfare system, profiling a population with a low standard of living. Furthermore, many of the newcomers welcomed in Berlin for the last ten years have been placed in our district. Creating a high multicultural region, increases certain difficulties related to social integration of new families. Many of the youngsters here are early school-leavers or do not reach high education stages after mandatory studies. We also would like to add that, although for the last years left-wing parties have got a clear presence in the government, Marzahn-Hellerdorf has been known as one of the main right-wing supporters in the capital of Germany. The aim of Roter Baum Berlin is to turn into supporting our youngest community, offering projects which involve them directly and giving them tools to break from their systemic socio-economic situation and the preconceptions and stereotypes which affect them directly since very early age. With our solidarity activities, we want to reduce prejudices, fight against racism, spread solidarity and diversity among Marzahn-Hellersdorf citizens. Roter Baum Berlin has a wide variety of activities implementation. Firstly, there are the permanent projects working daily in the district, secondly the international projects applied mostly throughout the Erasmus+ and the mobility of volunteers with ESC, and finally the single events that we produce along the year. Also, last summer we organized again summer camps for children with lower opportunities in the city within support of the district, after a few years not doing them due to the lack of public subsidies. The core of Roter Baum Berlin is Zentrale, an education and community participation centre, where a variety of cultural and political projects gather and use the space for developing local activities and international projects. Here we are developing ideas for future projects and actively participating in project activities implementation. Through our activities we cooperate with different non-formal youth groups, helping them to increase their participation and mobility level. Another one is the Mehrgenerationen Buntes Haus, a multigenerational education centre opened for all the neighbours of different ages. Here our staff work daily on the social integration and the welfare of the users, either kids or elderly people, through projects such as family café, playroom and children’s library or parenting support. Our last permanent project in the quarter is Anna Landsberger - Internationales Jugendzentrum, our youth centre with a pedagogic space that gathers youngsters aged 12-25. Here the visitors can develop their interests mostly on political education, urban youth culture, music and dancing, through open informal youth work methodologies. It also has a stage with full equipment that hosts several musical events along the year and supports young people in organizing events. The project is mostly focused on programs for local youth, culture and learning processes, and it also implements and hosts several national youth camps and international mobility projects. International projects are transversally connected with the previously mentioned activities, our organization has been applying and implementing Youth mobilities and Strategic partnerships for youth activities since 2006. Examples: Music for Human Rights, Urban Youth Culture and Communities, ORA: Nature in Frame, Open Youth Work for Open Society etc. Most of our international projects are focused on youth work through music and urban culture as a tool of integration of youngsters all over Europe and further. It is spreading the importance of informal and open youth work in our times. Since 2010, Roter Baum has hosted around 40 European volunteers, placing them in our local permanent projects previously mentioned. With them, we have a two-way benefit, they make our children and youngsters users more aware of the existent diversity outside the borders of their country and also the volunteers can develop themselves in several areas of interest. Roter Baum in partnership with the municipality and other organizations focused on youth in the district develops musical and progressive events: Schöner leben ohne Nazis, Respekt und Neugier, eAction or diveRcity. Its main focus are generating social cohesion in the district and spreading values such as respect and inclusion, the diversity and diffusing nationalism especially among the young population.

Through it, you will be able to be creative and implement different, small-scale activities with youngsters in public spaces. In case you are creative and have good idea, your idea can be an individual offer to the local young people at these events. As a part of the project, you will learn what impact projects have on the environment, and for one day, you will be part of our “Green day” when we will plant trees to neutralise our projects impact on the environment (including this project). The team members will be accommodated in the hostel in the city of Berlin. The hostel has good underground transport connections. to the venue and the places from where the venues will be organised. During the project, the food will be organised by hostel, team or individually. During the stay, volunteers will be provided with adequate public transport tickets.

Upon arrival at the teams project, adequate team training with personal focus will be provided to the volunteers upon arrival. Next to it, the volunteers will be guided through the calculation of the CO2 impact of their project and participate in educational activities where neutralisation of it will be done.

The Participant profile: We are looking for motivated volunteers, able to adapt to different tasks, cultures, situations and to work in the team but also independently with good logical, social and mathematical skills. The volunteer should be a person with an interest and skills in creativity, food preparation, handicrafts, pedagogy and work with youth, video and photography, and free time activities of youth. Most of the activities are planned and organised in the mornings, while the implementation of open days will be outside and mostly in late afternoon hours.
