Presentation of the program

Diocesan Charity České Budějovice (further simply DCHCB) provides support, coordination, and methodical assistance to 10 local Charities. The Centre of DCHCB provides its own social services (including the Volunteer Centre) and participates in projects in the Diocese of České Budějovice and abroad. The project supported by the European Solidarity Corps enables us to host foreign volunteers who can participate in several volunteering activities. These activities focus on four target groups: 1) support of older people and people with disabilities 2) work with children and youth in the programme Young Caritas, 3) helping people who have been affected by a natural disaster or war. Our activities are open to all young people (volunteers), including those with fewer opportunities. We want to support the interest in the social issue of multiculturalism and aim to break down the dysfunctional stereotypes in society.

About the accommodation

Accommodation for volunteers is guaranteed. We provide accommodation in dormitories for young people or in private apartments. The volunteer will have his/her own room with a shared kitchen and bathroom. The volunteer can cook his/her own meals, or there are many opportunities to eat outside. Concerning transportation, public transport is available. The town of České Budějovice is also ideal for cycling. We are prepared to help with purchasing a bike.

About the leisure

The educational plan will include: 1) introduction training lead by our staff, 2) Czech language course, 3) the course called „Setkání s charitou“ (DCHCB organizes this course several times a year), 4) digital literacy issues (using digital tools/methods every day), 5) training connected with European Solidarity Corps (National Agency), 5) goals from the volunteer‘s perspective (connected to the key competences of the volunteer). The core of the training will be the everyday interaction with our target groups. Volunteers will develop their communication, manual, language and other soft skills.

Requirements

The Participant profile: We focus on individual volunteering, hosting the volunteers from abroad, and their engagement in the standard activities that we offer. Mainly we would like to seek someone willing to support older people and people with disabilities, work with children, and people affected by natural disasters or war (currently Ukrainian refugees). A prerequisite for the work of a volunteer is communicativeness and at least a basic knowledge of English. All the activities are also suitable for young people with fewer opportunities (not suitable for wheelchair users).

Extra information

The project is implemented under the European Solidarity Corps Programme, financed by the European Commission.
The participating organisations have to be mindful of these needs as they are responsible for providing a respectful and trusting hosting environment. At the same time, the organisations participating in the initiative devote a great deal of time, energy and resources to set up a high-quality activity; they should therefore expect that European Solidarity Corps participants show a similar level of respect for the local communities and the people that are directly concerned by the activities (https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/mission_en).
