About the local hosting organization
Our school, the "Freie Montessorischule Stams" is based in an association and hosts a private school for children between 6 and 16 years. It is situated in the centre of the community Stams. Students, no matter what their age, are given the freedom to use their time as they wish, and the responsibility for designing their path to adulthood. Students from "Primaria" through "Sekundaria" age explore the world freely at their own pace and in their own unique ways. The children can do anything which develops their learning, because children learn everything they need for their future life at this school. They are usually at the school from 7:45 until 12:45 and use this time to learn.
Presentation of the program
The target group of “park in” is youngsters between 12 and 19 years, coming from different social and educational backgrounds. Most of the young visitors live in the communities between Innsbruck and Hall in Tirol and spend their leisure time in and around the youth center. They are supported by youth workers and can talk to them about their interests and needs. Also counselling sessions are provided by the Youth Work team.
The youth center “park in” offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. The main meeting point is the Youth Café, which has been renovated by the team and the youngsters a few years ago. There is an outdoor skateboard area, pool billiard, disco area, recording studio, table tennis, DJ workstation, creativity workroom, a chillroom, free internet access, cooking facilities, concert and music facilities, workshop rooms and much more.
About the accommodation
The project is located centrally in the community of Hall in Tirol, which is 10 minutes by train from the regional capital Innsbruck. Hall in Tirol has around 14.000 inhabitants, good infrastructure, is a touristic town and offers frequent train and bus connections.
The volunteer’s flat is next to the youth center. It is a one-room-apartment, fully equipped with a kitchen block and a bathroom. Be aware that you live exactly where the youth center is located and sometimes, youngsters gather close-by in the evening. The area is safe and the youth center and the flat are located very centrally.
