About the local hosting organization

Our partner in Uganda is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on empowering youth through community development projects. They offer opportunities for international volunteers to contribute to these initiatives through workcamps and cultural exchange programs. The organization is non-profit and operates without any political, religious, or sectarian affiliations.

Presentation of the program

The volunteer will be expected to assist the full-time staff by participating in the following:

• Preparing resources and materials required in the learning process ;

• Assist with indoor and outdoor games ;

• Assist in arranging parties and other special school days ;

• Preparing excursions and field tours ;

• Music, Dance and Drama ;

• Arts and Crafts ;

• Engaging children with enjoyable literature – reading, storytelling and writing ;

• Contribute to documentation of children's learning ;

• Organize children's holiday camps ;

• Arranging for teachers and parents' workshops ;

• IT-related activities, e.g. web design, social networking, etc.

About the accommodation

Volunteers have two accommodation options: the guesthouse or a homestay with a local family.

The guesthouse offers shared rooms (typically 2-4 people) and provides a comfortable, though not luxurious, living space.

Choosing a homestay with a host family provides a deeper immersion into Ugandan culture and daily life.

About the food

Volunteers staying at the guesthouse prepare their own meals. Our ugandan partner provides a gas cooker, refrigerator, and utensils. This allows the volunteer to explore local markets and try their hand at Ugandan cuisine. Popular dishes include matoke (steamed plantains), luwombo (steamed meat or fish in banana leaves), and groundnut stew.

Homestay volunteers typically share meals with their host family, offering a unique culinary and cultural experience.

About the leisure

The Volunteer may use their leisure time to visit some sites around the city which include:

- The Kasubi Tombs ;

- The Bahai and Hindu Temples ;

- Uganda Martyrs shrines ;

- Ndere centre ;

- The Uganda Museum ;

- Monument sites near the region ;

- The Uganda Parliament ;

- The local markets, craft shops, factories, ... and all kinds of other explorations.

They can also experience the natural beauty of Uganda's national parks, home to diverse wildlife including gorillas, chimpanzees, and lions.

Extra information

500 Euros should be paid on arrival for one to three months. If the volunteer is to stay for more than 3 months, 80 euros are paid per extra month in advance.
