About the local hosting organization

Worldwide Friends (WF) is a non-profit organization founded in 2001 with the mission to promote nature conservation, intercultural understanding, and peace through volunteer activities in Iceland. In 2026, our focus will be on climate action, community resilience, and sustainable lifestyles — empowering participants to take meaningful action in their daily lives and local communities. WF organizes a variety of programs, including international workcamps, seminars, local community projects, and exchange programs, open to both young people and adults who wish to make a positive impact while experiencing Iceland's unique culture and natural beauty.

Presentation of the program

Description of work Volunteers will play an important role in building and supporting this temporary community in a remote and inspiring environment. Their tasks will include: Long Build – July 27th – August 9th: Supporting the setup of the site, including building tents and core infrastructure Short Build – August 2nd – August 9th: Assisting with decoration and preparing the festival environment Mid-Event – August 9th – August 15th: Helping with daily maintenance and clean-up to ensure the smooth running of the event Post-Event – August 16th – August 19th: Supporting clean-up and takedown of the site Sustainability and waste-sorting support Volunteers will work in shifts, including night shifts, depending on the needs of the project phase and the festival schedule. As part of this international and cross-disciplinary gathering, volunteers will contribute to creating a shared experience that connects creativity, collaboration, and community in a truly unique Icelandic landscape.

About the accommodation

Participants will camp throughout the entire project. All camping gear will be provided, including tents and sleeping bags, and there are showers available on site. Three meals per day will be offered, with a vegetarian diet encouraged. Participants stay close to the festival area, share meals provided by the program, contribute meaningful work shifts, and enjoy the music, celebrations, and unique cultural energy—repeating the cycle that makes this experience unforgettable.

About the location

There will be opportunities to explore the SnÞfellsnes Peninsula, often called “Iceland in Miniature,“ during free time. Participants can discover a diverse range of landscapes, including the SnÞfellsjökull glacier, lava fields, black-sand beaches, dramatic coastal cliffs, and small fishing villages, experiencing the raw and varied nature of Iceland in one region.

Requirements

Participants should be prepared for physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, construction tasks, and long shifts. A good level of physical fitness is required. Volunteers must be comfortable living in a remote outdoor environment and camping for the full duration of the project. Flexibility is essential, as tasks and schedules may change depending on weather conditions and operational needs. Participants should come prepared for Icelandic weather conditions, which can change quickly and include wind, rain, and low temperatures even in summer.

Extra information

Participation is physically active and may involve night shifts depending on the project phase. The project takes place in a remote natural environment; flexibility and adaptability to weather and changing conditions are essential. Volunteers are expected to actively contribute to both the construction and maintenance of the site, as well as communal living tasks. This is a non-touristic, hands-on volunteering experience focused on supporting a large-scale temporary festival infrastructure. Respect for the environment, local community, and shared living spaces is required at all times. Final tasks and schedules may be adjusted based on weather and operational needs.
