Mara Osero project is located in the western part of Mara North Conservancy and operated by Jeff, a member of the Maasai community and the owner of this piece of land. The project was established in 2015 with the aim of creating a sustainable camp for hosting volunteers and tourists and creating jobs for the local community. It was also designed for protecting the delicate ecosytem of the conservancy.

Living in the bush surrounded by wildlife (zebras, giraffes, antelopes, lions, hippos and elephants), the volunteer will work in direct contact with nature and helping in available activities. Apart from everyday activities, volunteers will get to closely know the eco-system of Maasai Mara through excursions, nature walks, activities of conservancy, bird watching, enjoying sunrises and sunsets. In addition, they will have the opportunity to interact with the local community in the closest village, Kirindon. The Maasai community is a unique and popular tribe due to their long preserved culture of their traditional way of life, making them a symbol of the Kenyan culture.

Example of daily volunteer activities:
▪ Gardening / Agriculture
▪ Pasturing and milking cows
▪ General maintenance and improvement of the eco-camp : construction of local cottages, painting, gardening, landscaping and planting of flowers
▪ Helping in the daily life work like cleaning, cooking and shopping from the local market
▪ Planting grass, plants and trees
▪ Environmental clean-up exercises involving collection of plastics
▪ Assisting in the maintenance of beehives (apiculture)
▪ Assisting in the local dispensary
▪ Activities in a local school, that can include interacting with children and improving the building
▪ Any kind of new ideas or initiatives to help improve the camp or generate income

Accomodation in Nairobi
The accomodation for 2 nights in host family is included : one at arrival in Kenya and one at departure. If you want additional nights or you want to stay in a hotel, we can help you make arrangement but the cost will be on you.

Our volunteer will be accommodated in a local Manyatta house within the project. Cleaned piped water is available. If volunteer want bottled water, they should make arrangements to buy it in the local town. There is solar power for charging phones, it is important to have a power bank as well.

Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided throughout the project duration. Only locally available foodstuffs are used for cooking. If you want additional food, snack, drinks (soda and alcohol), you can buy them in the local villages (Kirindon and Mara Rienda) but the cost will be on you.

Because the project is adjacent to adjacent to Maasai Mara National Park and many conservancies, we can arrange for you safaris. We can also help you arrange trips to any other sites of Kenya as the famous Lake Victoria or Lake Naivasha.

At arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a driver will pick you and bring you to your accomodation. In order for us to arrange your airport pickup, please let us know your arrival date, time and flight number as soon as possible. At the airport, there is just one exit. This is where the driver will be waiting for you. You can identify him/her by the sign board with your name written on it. In case of you do not find us, please wait at the information desk in opposite of the exit. You can also contact us through WhatsApp by use of free public Wi-Fi at the airport..

During you stay in Nairobi, a guide will bring you to a safaricom shop and help you buy a sim card. If you want, he can also bring you to a bank to withdraw some cash and to shops to buy the necessary items for the project.
If you want to visit Nairobi, we can arrange transport but the cost will be on you.

A driver will pick you up early in the morning from your Nairobi accomodation, bring you to the matatu bus station and help you buy the ticket. The matatu will bring you to Kilgoris town in around 6 hours. A motorbike driver (piki-piki) will pick you and bring you to the project in around 1 hour.

The 1st month - 300 euros. Next month - 150 euros for the first 2 weeks and full amount for the last week's 300 euros.

The fee covers the following services:
▪ Accommodation in the project ;
▪ Food : 3 meals a day ;
▪ Airport pickup and transfer ;
▪ Accomodation in host family in Nairobi : 1 night on arrival, 1 night at departure.

The following costs are NOT included:
▪ Transport from the accomodation in Nairobi to the bus station ;
▪ Activities and extra transport in Nairobi ;
▪ Accommodation in a hotel in Nairobi ;
▪ Transport to the project ;
▪ Local travelling during the project ;
▪ Extra drinks like soda, beer ;
▪ Personal items like toiletries ;
▪ Cost of sightseeing / safari ;
▪ Visa costs.

The fee of the month has to be paid upfront on arrival in full to facilitate proper arrangement of your placement.

You can either pay through:
- Cash in Euros.
- Cash in Kenya Shilling, based on the current exchange rate.
- Money transfer to a bank account.
- Remitly transfer or send wave transfers.

Healthcare :
It is highly recommended that you do prior online search of the project area and be aware of likely diseases and consult a doctor for immunization and prevention measures. 
The nearest clinic is located in Junction which is about 45 min drive from the project.
