About the local hosting organization

The program in Nepal is part of an international initiative facilitating cultural exchange and volunteer opportunities for youth worldwide. This program specifically focuses on providing immersive volunteering experiences in Nepal.
It offers a variety of volunteer placements across different sectors such as education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and community development. Volunteers are given the chance to contribute to meaningful projects while experiencing Nepali culture and society firsthand.
The program emphasizes cross-cultural understanding, personal growth, and global citizenship. Volunteers are encouraged to engage with local communities, learn the Nepali language, and participate in cultural activities to enhance their experience.
Additionally, the program provides comprehensive support and guidance to volunteers throughout their placements, ensuring a positive and impactful experience. Its goal is to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between volunteers and host communities, while also fostering sustainable development and intercultural learning.

Vaishnavi Secondary School is one of the renowned community schools of Kirtipur Municipality that offers schooling from class nursery to ten. This school management has 102 students and 15 staff, is partially monitored by the government, and provides financial support to pay for the teachers and other infrastructures which will be needed for the School. The students of most community schools are from the nearby village and mostly are belong to them financially.

Presentation of the program

Volunteer’s Activities:
A typical schedule for teaching projects will be like this:
The first day- Arrival in Kathmandu and Orientation session by the local coordinator covering topic areas; such as safety, culture, language, places to visit, rules to follow in projects and Host family, food, Transportation, and more.
Next-Day– Visit Host Family with field coordinator and local coordinator to get introduced to the placement, projects, and more.
Week Day - Volunteer work (morning10 am: 2/3 pm).
The same volunteer work schedule continues from the second week onwards
Note- Sunday to Friday is working day and Saturday is off day. If volunteers want to go outside, then they need to inform the Host family and our partner.
Volunteers' Tasks:
Volunteers will teach English course books as prescribed by the school in co-coordination with local English teachers. Volunteers can organize various learning extracurricular activities through students, for example, health and civic education, games, drawing, painting, sports activities, quiz contests, awareness-raising activities in the community through students, debate, music class, etc.
Other Activities:
• play educational games with the kids;
• develop manuals according to the student’s need, from prioritizing the listening and speaking classes;
• organize hiking, educational tour, case study, and other activities so that students can have real experience in their learning practice;
• be a role model for the students. Smoking, drinking and using toxic substances in front of students is forbidden;
• run extra English language classes for students if they are eager to learn either after school or in holidays, i.e. if the school is closed;
Note: Volunteers should pay for outdoor activities.

About the accommodation

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Volunteers joining the teaching program in Nepal will be accommodated with a host family.
The host family is carefully chosen and holds years of experience in the field of hosting international travelers. The host family is warm welcoming and helpful for the Volunteer’s. They have been working with us for a long period of time.
Our host families have basic bathroom facilities and running tap water. Electricity and WIFI facility is available. The host family has 5 members in their family, Grandmother, host father and his wife with their 2 sons. The host family is situated 10 minutes walking distance from the project. The volunteers need to share rooms with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same Program. 

About the food

Volunteers will be provided 3 local meals a day, consisting lunch and dinner. Traditional Nepalese cuisines consisting Daal, Bhat and pickle will be served during lunch. Breakfast and dinner will also be provided.

About the location

Location: Kritipur, Kathmandu, Rural Part of Nepal.
Community Context
The very name Kirtipur means “a famed town” in Nepali Language and in Newari language known as “kipu”and “kyapu”. The location of this small town is different from the other main towns of the Valley in the same that occupies the top of a steep rocky hill. This city of glory is inhabited and also dominated by Newars, which are the earliest settlers in the Valley with their own Language and cultural norms, and values. Originally a Newari foundation, it is no doubt that Kritipur is still a center of Newari culture. Volunteers can observe the local festival of the people. They have their own Newari language it is also known as Nepali Bhasha. It was Nepal’s administrative language from14th to the late 18th century. They are always the use Newari language when they talk to each other. However, people of different castes and religions now stay in this place. So, it consists of many Temples, Gumbas and Churches as well. Because of the Tribhuwan University, nowadays, this place is crowded with students.

About the leisure

During leisure time, the volunteers can take a look around various age-old historical places such as Bagh Bharab, Chovar Gorge, and Taudaha Lake. 

Requirements

Volunteers must:
• Be flexible;
• Be at least 18 years old;
• Demonstrate eagerness, the ability to maintain motivation, and reliability;
• Show creativity and initiative when planning and participating in activities;
• Have confidence in their work;
• Possess strong time management skills to ensure effective support;
• Focus on providing additional activities for students;
• Have confidence in their knowledge of their respective subjects before teaching.

Note: volunteers interested in Languages and cultural immersion program can directly talk to country or local coordinator.
Program fees: 400 Euro / for the first 4 weeks.
And 100 euro / week extension after 4 weeks of completion.
