Fundación VASE (Voluntariado para la Ayuda Social del Ecuador) is a non-profit organization, created in 2008. We work to strengthen intercultural relations, promote volunteer social aid and inspire the commitment of a global citizenship.
We believe in a world full of solidarity, social and personal development, as well as respect for diversity. Through volunteering we build new generations with values dedicated to improving global social conditions.
Fundación VASE is the only member in Ecuador of the ICYE (International Cultural Youth Exchange) federation. ICYE is an international non-governmental organization with more than 70 years of experience in promoting youth activity and global citizenship. Today ICYE is a federation with more than 40 national committees in America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

The program is focused on teaching the English language to children and young people of the Cañar city and its communities, the teachers have been foreigners who speak this language fluently.

Project's activities:

Serving the citizens of the Cañar canton and its surrounding communities, providing them with a personalized and quality education and proposing an environment of participation and cultural exchange between diverse groups such as: indigenous, mestizos, foreigners and other ethnic groups.
Promote a bilingual intercultural education from the exchange and interaction that occurs within the educational community during the teaching-learning process. and Promote the tourist development of the canton, province and country as complementary and extra curricular activities of the program.

Volunteer's tasks:

To teach English to children from 6 years old to 17 years old from the Cañar canton and its rural communities. They will teach together with another teacher from Cañar who is fluent in Spanish and English. In addition, they must attend training or workshops held by the program's teachers. Conversation clubs (Spanish and English) are also held on Wednesdays and Fridays. In order for the children and youth to learn English properly, it is necessary to plan each of the classes, create activities, dynamics, games, didactic material, projects, online material, conversations, videos, audios, dialogues, readings, and lesson plans prior to each day of classes.

Cañar has very low crime rates, which is why it is considered safe. To be specific, the school is located on Av. 24 de Mayo and Ingapirca Avenue in the center of the city. The travel time from the school to the volunteer's place of residence is 8 minutes by bus; the transportation system is efficient and economical in the canton. 60% of the population of the canton is indigenous, and for this reason the main productive activities are agriculture and livestock. It is located 1 hour from one of the main cities of Ecuador: Cuenca (southern highlands).

It is essential that the volunteer speaks English fluently, it is not necessary to have experience because inside the classroom there will be another teacher from the Cañar canton. It is important that the volunteer has a passion for teaching, is an extrovert, likes to spend time with children and young people and has a vocation to serve and help society.

Participation fees from August 2023 to January 2024 :
- 4 weeks: 500 €
- Add 125 € for each additional week.
