About the local hosting organization
Safisha Africa School is a junior school that was established in 2010 by a Kenyan teacher. It is focussed to providing education to the poor and vulnerable children around Mowlem in Nairobi’s Eastlands area. The school is dedicated to provide free lunch, books, access to medical care, school shoes and uniforms to the children who are either orphans or come from poor families however some children who are able pay something for school fees are allowed to do so. The school runs from baby class to grade 6 has a total of 250 children majority being girls. The children are from the age of 3 years to 13 years old with a staff comprising of 4 teachers hence the need of assistance from volunteers.
All the children have been trained to speak English fluently hence easy to interact with anyone who visits them.
Since its establishment, 4000 children have benefited from the school. The school is also involved in feeding program, street child rescue and empowerment of young girls from the slums in Eastlands Nairobi.
Presentation of the program
Possible tasks of the volunteers :
• Assisting teachers in writing lessons on the blackboard for the children ;
• Assisting in teaching children to write and pronounce words ;
• Assisting children in counting numbers for basic mathematics ;
• Playing with the children ;
• Telling stories of a different country to the children so as to motivate them ;
• Teaching young teenage girls about personal sanitation and health.

CIVS Kenya organizes tours and safaris to spectacular sites of interest in Kenya. Volunteers, who
wish to participate, should let us know as soon as possible in order to enable us to make proper
arrangements. The fee charged is all-inclusive of meals, transport, park entry fees, accommodation and tour guiding. The cost of a 3 days safari to Maasai Mara National Reserve is 400 Euros in a Tour Van and 470 Euros in a Tour Jeep.
Requirements
Proven experience in education or leadership, as well as a sufficient level of language skills, is required for this project. An interview will be held to ascertain the skills and motivation of the volunteer.
