About the local hosting organization
Fundación VASE (Voluntariado para la Ayuda Social del Ecuador) is a non-profit organization, created in 2008. We work to strengthen intercultural relations, promote volunteer social aid and inspire the commitment of a global citizenship.
We believe in a world full of solidarity, social and personal development, as well as respect for diversity. Through volunteering we build new generations with values dedicated to improving global social conditions.
Fundación VASE is the only member in Ecuador of the ICYE (International Cultural Youth Exchange) federation. ICYE is an international non-governmental organization with more than 70 years of experience in promoting youth activity and global citizenship. Today ICYE is a federation with more than 40 national committees in America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
Presentation of the program
Aims of the project
To improve the quality of life of the people that live in at-risk areas and to promote sustainable development.
Project´s activities
The project works with 2 kindergartens: “Violanta y Werner” and “Nuevo Miguelito”. They take care of children between 1 to 6 years old, whose parents have low incomes or with complicated social and family backgrounds. At the project, the educators and volunteers teach the children how to make handicrafts, coordinate group games, and teach good table manners, as well as music and English.
Volunteer´s tasks
The volunteer’s tasks would be to prepare teaching material for the children’s English classes that he/she teaches together with the teacher. Other tasks are playing with the children and helping to do some sports. If the volunteer is musical, he/she should as well help with the Music class.
About the location
The project is located in the district of Santa Clara/Agua Clara close to the “Ofelia” bus station - North of the city. Volunteers can live in an apartment owned by Sembrar Esperanza with another 1-2 volunteers. The apartment is located in Pomasqui, about 30 minutes by bus from the north of Quito.
Requirements
The project needs an orderly, responsible, active, social and dynamic volunteer. He/She should have a basic level of Spanish.
Extra information
Participation fees from August 2023 to January 2024 :
- 4 weeks: 500 €
- Add 125 € for each additional week.
