About the local hosting organization

We will organize this camp in cooperation with Mersin-Mezitli Municipality and this year will be the third year of our cooperation. For more information about our partner, please visit https://www.mezitli.bel.tr

Presentation of the program

In this camp, volunteers will teach English to the selected staff of the Municipality to support Mersin Municipality's capacity strengthening activities. Thus, the skills of the personnel of Mezitli Municipality, which is the first in the world in the field of social innovation, will be increased, and these personnel will be able to serve the society better.

About the accommodation

Volunteers will accommodate in the cute guesthouse of the Happy Life Village of the Municipality. The guesthouse has a shower, toilet and air conditioning, and has bunk beds. Volunteers will eat their food at Down Café where individuals with Down Syndrome work. The dishes will be prepared by the chefs of Down Café. Thus, the food needs of the volunteers will be met, and the employment and socialization processes of individuals with Down Syndrome will be supported. As a second possibility, hotel accommodation can be provided to volunteers.

About the location

The mezitli, a Mediterranean district, is one of the biggest and most beautiful districts of the Mersin which is one of the Turkey's most beautiful touristic city. Mersin and Mezitli are among the provinces and districts preferred for accommodation by the refugees from Syria who camed to Turkey due to the civil war. In this region, which has a Mediterranean coast full of palm trees, many cultures and communities coexist and there are many natural and cultural heritages from the Ancient Roman and Hellenistic Periods. "Women Producer Markets" project implemented by Mersin Mezitli Municipality, came first in the "International Guangzhou Urban Innovation Awards" held in China. Mersin-Mezitli Municipality, the one of the most successful municipalities of Turkey with its intense efforts on social innovation and urban studies, hosts this camp. Mersin Mezitli Municipality, which stands out with its social and economic supports and sustainable environmental projects that it provides to socially disadvantaged individuals such as people with disabilities, Down syndrome, individuals with autism, children, the elderly, asylum seekers, is one of the factors that make this region attractive.

Requirements

The volunteers who will attend this camp should know English well and be able to teach English. It is the reason of preference for studying in English translation and interpreting or graduating from one of these departments. Volunteers will teach English to adults.
