Die Organisation Montessori & Friends gGmbH ist ein Träger für sechs verschiedene Montessori Kinderhäuser in verschiedenen Berliner Stadtteilen. Vier davon sind aktuell als ESK-Aufnahmeorganisation akkreditiert und nehmen somit Freiwillige in diesem Programm auf. Neben den Kinderhäusern gehören auch die Internationale Montessori Schule in Wannsee sowie ein Pflegedienst für ältere Menschen zum Träger. Außerdem betreibt der Träger die Montessori Akademie Berlin, die regelmäßig berufsbegleitende Basis-Lehrgänge zum Montessori-Diplom anbietet. Die Teilnehmenden schließen den Lehrgang mit der Prüfung für das nationale Montessori-Diplom der Deutschen Montessori-Vereinigung (DMV) ab. In dem hier vorliegenden Antrag soll es um die folgenden drei Kinderhäuser gehen: Montessori Kinderhaus Friedenau Das Montessori-Kinderhaus Friedenau befindet sich in der Nähe des Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platzes, nur ca. 15 Fahrminuten vom Zentrum Berlins entfernt. In der größten Einrichtung des Trägers werden maximal 100 Kinder im Alter von ein bis sechs Jahren von 7 Uhr bis 17/18 Uhr betreut. Das Kinderhaus ist in mehrere Gruppen aufgeteilt, die sich über verschiedene Etagen des Gebäudes verteilen. Montessori Kinderhaus IBZ Das Montessori–Kinderhaus im IBZ liegt in Berlin–Wilmersdorf im Internationalen Begegnungszentrum der Wissenschaft. Es werden rund 30 Kinder im Alter von eins bis sechs Jahren zu den Öffnungszeiten von 8 bis 17 Uhr betreut. Die Begleitung von Integrationskindern wird von allen Beteiligten als Bereicherung erlebt. Montessori Kinderhaus Wannsee Das Montessori Kinderhaus am Wannsee gehört zum Campus der Internationalen Montessorischule (IMS) und ist in grüner Umgebung am westlichen Rand von Berlin gelegen. Hier können rund 30 Kinder im Alter von zwei bis sechs Jahren betreut werden. Das Kinderhaus ist von 8 bis 17 Uhr geöffnet. Alle Kinderhäuser des Trägers Montessori & Friends sind bilingual und die Kinder spielen und lernen in einer deutsch–englischsprachigen Umgebung. Sie stehen in ständigem Kontakt zu den bilingualen Mitarbeiter*innen und werden so spielerisch in die Fremdsprache eingeführt. Ein fließender Übergang in die erste Klasse der bilingualen Montessorischule ist Teil des Konzeptes. Die Montessori-Pädagogik geht davon aus, dass jedes Kind, jeder Mensch einen inneren Antrieb und Motivation besitzt um seine Umgebung zu erforschen, zu begreifen und in ihr und durch sie zu wachsen. Dabei ist die Freiarbeit ein wichtiger Baustein. Jedes Material ist nur einmal vorhanden und hat einen vorgeschriebenen Platz. Dadurch wird eine Orientierung gegeben, die gleichzeitig Offenheit zulässt und Kommunikationsfähigkeiten stärkt. In den Kinderhäusern sind die Räume auf die Größe und die körperlichen Bedürfnisse der Kinder ausgerichtet. Sie sind so gestaltet, dass jede*r individuell oder in den Gruppen seinen/ihren Interessen nachgehen kann. Aus einer Vielzahl von Spiel- und Arbeitsmaterialien kann individuell ausgewählt werden. Für alle Kinderhäuser spielen die „Außer-Haus-Aktivitäten“ in die Natur, auf Spielplätze (sofern nicht direkt im Kinderhaus vorhanden) Museen oder Theater eine große Rolle. Außerdem gibt es regelmäßige Ausflüge zum Sport in nahe gelegene Turnhallen. The organisation Montessori & Friends gGmbH hosts six different Montessori children's houses in different districts of Berlin. Four of them are currently accredited as ESK host organisations and thus accept volunteers in this programme. In addition to the children's houses, the International Montessori School in Wannsee and a care service for the elderly are also part of the organisation. The organisation also runs the Montessori Academy Berlin, which regularly offers in-service basic courses leading to the Montessori Diploma. All children's houses of Montessori & Friends are bilingual and the children play and learn in a German-English speaking environment. They are in constant contact with the bilingual staff and are thus introduced to the foreign language through play. A smooth transition to the first class of the bilingual Montessori school is part of the concept. Montessori education is based on the assumption that every child and every person has an inner drive and motivation to explore and understand their environment and to grow in it and through it. Free work is an important building block in this. Each material is available only once and has a prescribed place. This provides an orientation that at the same time allows for openness and strengthens communication skills. In the children's houses, the rooms are designed according to the size and physical needs of the children. They are designed so that everyone can pursue his/her interests individually or in the groups. There is a wide range of play and work materials to choose from. For all children's houses, "out-of-home activities" to nature, playgrounds, museums or theatres play a major role. There are also regular excursions to nearby gyms for sports.

We are looking for a volunteer for the after-school club at the International Montessori School in Berlin-Wannsee. One of the volunteers’ main tasks is to support the permanent staff in implementing the set daily routine and its various activities for the children. Volunteers may therefore be asked to act as a point of contact for the children during the early morning session, free play or study groups. club children; for example, there are regular forest walks, a creative workshop and various sports activities. In addition, there are various after-school clubs where volunteers can support the teaching staff according to their own interests and preferences (e.g. school newspaper, sewing, crafts, gardening, etc.) Most of the activities take place with seasonal themes, public holidays and festivals in mind.

Volunteers are accommodated in a furnished and fully equipped shared apartment (together with up to 6 other ESC volunteers) in the district of Berlin Lichtenberg (commuting time around one hour per way). Each volunteer has a single bedroom, kitchen and bathroom are shared. Internet access and a washing machine are included. Volunteers receive a monthly pass for public transportation in Berlin and local public transport in all around Germany and a monthly pocket money of 210 €. Volunteers are paid a monthly meal allowance, including during vacation days (around 350 €).

The volunteers will receive at least one German language course and additionally the online language course via the online system. The volunteers get the possibility to take part in the meetings of the team and will also have meetings only with the tutor on a regular basis. Moreover, volunteers will take part in two seminars, conducted by the German National Agency (one during the first weeks of the project and one in the middle).

The Participant profile: The motivation of the volunteer to do a voluntary service and work with children is the most important criteria in selecting the volunteers. Other criteria might be: - very good English language skills (B2/C1), since the children are bilingual - basic knowledge of the German language is an advantage, but not mandatory - desirable: initial experience in the field of education Since 2021, it is obligatory that people working in kindergardens and schools in Germany have a measles immunisation. If you do´t have it, please be prepared to get the vaccination soon after your arrival in Germany.
