À propos de l'organisme d'accueil local
Öko-völgy Alapítvány, established in 2009 in rural Hungary, is an environmental organization embedded in an ecological farm community that focuses on self-sufficiency and sustainability as well as environmentally friendly agriculture and lifestyle. Our aim is to advocate and help creating a model of an alternative way of living that does not harm the environment but harnesses natural resources instead. By being a representative of a model community and showing practical examples of such operational farm community, we are able to demonstrate the importance of leading an environmentally friendly lifestyle and educate others regarding the methods for doing so. The goal of our Eco Valley Program, therefore, is to show interested people that one can achieve a quality way of life that is sustainable environmentally, economically and socially.
We believe that the key for change is taking initiative. Understanding the severity of climate change, depleting natural resources and other environmental problems, we are offering an alternative. Reconnecting ourselves to the land and trying to avoid using any harmful equipment or substances, we strive to lead a lifestyle that is not merely non-harmful for the environment but that actually nurtures it and us within it. We hope that by doing so we become an inspiration for others and in this way, we also act as an educational center for those interested in becoming more environmentally friendly and finding ways to live in harmony with nature.
Présentation du programme
The project addresses topics of ecological sustainability and self-sufficiency, which are of interest to all as the whole world is affected by it regardless of country, race, creed or socioeconomic status. Therefore, we believe that our volunteering opportunity will be attractive to young people and we look forward to invite participants interested in sustainability and self-sufficiency. À propos de l'hébergement
Volunteers will be hosted in a local guesthouse associated with our organization. The guesthouse is located near the entrance to our community in which the volunteers will be helping out. The volunteers will be accommodated in a 2 star guesthouse with dormitory rooms. The rooms are separate for male and female guests.
Volunteers will be provided with 3 meals a day during their stay.
We will provide a pick up from from the airport or those arriving on their own will be provided with a clear public transportation route, and then they will be picked up from the local train or bus station.
À propos des loisirs
The training activities of the project are going to focus on several aspects of sustainability and self-sufficiency, namely organic gardening and in connection to that vegetable and fruit preserving, cow herding, as well as sustainable cloth making. During the training volunteers will be of an assistance nature to the communities main residents and employees. During their volunteering work they will be able not merely to assist, but also gain theoretical as well as practical experience and knowledge about the topics, while learning and improving their own skills and competences in this way.
Exigences
The Participant profile: As far as participants' profiles are concerned we would like to be able to reach out to those who show interest by offering them this volunteering opportunity program. We plan to get in touch with other partner organizations with whom we have close relationships as well as organizations that are interested in the topics of sustainability and self-sufficiency, and ask for their assistance in finding volunteers for our organization.
During our volunteer selection process it is important for us to make sure that all volunteers are compatible with the organization and the lifestyle of the community. We emphasize transparency from both our part and from their part. We will make sure to describe and discuss with them all the details in advance about what they are to expect as far as the volunteering task as well as the facilities that we are able to provide for them. It is also important for us to make sure that those coming to volunteer with us can be a contributing member for the duration of their stay. We make sure to personally speak to every volunteer applicant before their application is approved as part of the screening and selection process. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life and from various backgrounds as long as they seem to be happy with the facilities which we are able to provide to them and are willing to be an active and helpful participant in their volunteering tasks in the community. It is also important for us to clarify to the applicants that since they will be helping in a small-scale community that is focusing mainly on organic farming, most tasks involve outdoor work and require some physical strength or endurance. Therefore, the volunteers that come have to be in good physical health in order to participate in the outdoor activities.
