Présentation du programme
"On the Hill Under the Rock" is a didactic workcamp in collaboration with Fundación Vital, focused on sustainable living and environmental education. Volunteers will receive training on renewable energy, water use, recycling, and basic survival. Tasks include maintenance work (painting, sanding, repairs), firewood collection, organic garden care, and natural space cleanup. Volunteers may also support post-fair cleanup after the local cattle festival (Aug 18–20). Educational activities include workshops on climate change, flora and fauna identification, geology, and visits to see renewable energy systems like a hydraulic ram and microturbine. The project encourages cultural exchange, critical thinking, and practical learning in a stunning natural setting.
À propos de l'hébergement
Accommodation will be in Fundación Vital’s wooden house with basic conditions; a second-week stay in a simple municipal school with bunk beds is possible (to be confirmed). Food is provided and prepared by volunteers in teams, guided by camp leaders. Diets can be adapted if informed in advance. We recommend arriving at Oviedo Asturias Airport (OVD); if not possible, check Bilbao or Santander. From OVD, take an ALSA bus (45 min, ~9€) to Oviedo city. Volunteers should arrive in Spain in the morning.
Exigences
The Participant profile: We are looking for motivated, curious, and adaptable young people who are eager to learn about sustainability, rural life, and environmental protection. No specific skills are required, but participants should be willing to engage in manual work, live in basic conditions, and contribute to group life (cooking, cleaning, etc.). An interest in nature, teamwork, and cultural exchange is essential. Volunteers should also be open to reflection and learning-by-doing. Spots are limited to 10 volunteers total, with a maximum of 2 per country.
Deadline: No application deadline
