À propos de l'organisme d'accueil local
FPD was founded in 2009, thanks the Regional Governament which granted its foundation on the basis of the activities planned for the social development of the regional rural areas. It is a non-profit regional civil organization, made by young and senior people. It's mission is to promote and facilitate the development of rural areas of the Puglia Region, thanks to the implementation of projects concerning volunteering, youth, social inclusion, environment protection, sustainable development, promotion of the importance of biodiversity, organic farming, nature and sport and outdoor activities. FPD focuses its attention on European mobility, both for the personal development of its single members and for the growth of local partner organizations at International level. The main target group is youth under 35 y.o., but the organization also works with senior people. Both the categories have in common the fact they are made of disadvantaged people from rural areas. The young people are mainly NEET, which means FPD offers them several opportunities to learn, be trained and educated at local and European level in order to enrich their curricula and get more chances for their job-placement or self-employment. FPD cooperates with several Public and Private entities at all levels, such as: a) Municipality of Taurisano (IT) - FPD cooperates in the organization of local events in several fields (waste collection, Music festivals, youth participation in decision making processes, cultural activities, music events, photo exhibitions....); b) Province of Lecce (IT) – FPD had a project concerning young people's involvement in local initiatives concerning ecology and biological food, re-use of different materials and recycle of waste; c) Region of Puglia (IT) – FPD cooperates with its Region on projects concerning promotion of natural resources of rural areas; d) Several EU NGOs are partners in the implementation of Youth Exchanges, Youth and Democracy projects, Training Courses, seminars, workshops, volunteering activties in different fields. What is more, FPD is member of numerous European Networks financed by the Europe for Citizens Programme, for the valorization of the EU Cultural Heritage (tangible, intangible, digital and natural), the promotion of Youth Mobility for learning, training, working, studying and volunteering abroad, the active participation (mainly digital participation) at EU level of youth and seniors.
Présentation du programme
To fully apply and be considered as a candidate, please read all the information on our webpage and fill out the application form you will find on fincaluna.org
The program offers a 10 months experience in 2 different farms. You will learn and practice about sintropic agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, and permaculture design. It includes intense physical work, theory workshops and a multicultural volunteer community experience, all with a focus on learning by doing. You will share this experience in groups of 2 in each farm during 4 months, and then with a group of 6 volunteers in another farm during 6 months. It is a long term program to allow you to deepen the concepts you learn and to see the evolution of your practice and abilities. Volunteers come from different countries, included from Spain. We work 7 hours daily ranging from routine farm work (garden, forest, animals, plant nursery, bioconstruction), group projects, workshops, and community work in other farms.
À propos de l'hébergement
Volunteers are hosted in the farms, in shared bedrooms, with access to shared bathroom and kitchen. Comfort is basic as some facilities are located outside . In winter, rain is frequent and temperature can go down to -2 degrees celsius by night (it can be cold inside too because of humidity). This is probably not the image you have of Canary Island but farms are located in mountain areas, not on the coast! In summer, we work with 35-37 degrees. Food is covered partially by farm produces, partially by money allowance to buy products in the market. Meals are cooked and shared among volunteers.
À propos des loisirs
The aim of our project is to train you so that you can improve your awareness of the natural environment, have a good understanding of what regenerative agriculture is, design and build your own food forest, and become leader of sustainability in your community. We focus on learning by doing, where mistakes are part of the process. Our goal is that you enhance your confidence and autonomy in conducting ecological farm tasks. Volunteers are trained through workshops offered by the coordinators as well as by fellow volunteers.
Exigences
The Participant profile: To be passionate about the environment, ecological farming, and permaculture; To be willing to learn rural and manual skills and to enjoy doing physical hard work; To be ready to spend 10 months living and working on a farm with basic comfort with cold rainy weather in winter and dry and hot in summer; To be willing to study the theory behind regenerative agriculture and permaculture; To be open-minded, flexible and have predisposition to learning; ready to participate in maintenance activities such as cooking and cleaning; To be committed to learn basic spanish before arrival. Preference will be given to candidates with fewer opportunities. If you want to combine volunteering with vacations life style, this is not for you. Apply only if you are passionate about our topics and want to become a regenerative farmer in the future.
