À propos de l'organisme d'accueil local
The Mexican Association of International Volunteering AC (AMVIAC) participates in the transformation of the country through the integration of International Volunteering in projects organized in Mexico and abroad by civil associations, local governments, communities
and organized groups, with the idea that after this experience they can become
more actively involved in the work of their community.
Présentation du programme
Over the past fourteen years, the World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) initiative has grown enormously due to the growing interest and appreciation for the protection and preservation of World Heritage sites. For the third time, an international volunteer camp will be held at the Ex-Convent of San Miguel Arcángel, located in the municipality of Huejotzingo. The former convent is a Franciscan construction, considered the first “convent-fortress temple“ built in New Spain, and was declared
a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. Huejotzingo will receive national
and international volunteers to carry out awareness-raising activities about the importance
of preserving local cultural heritage, supporting the preservation of the 16th century
ex-convent on the slopes of Popocatépetl. This project envisages collaborative
work with the heritage management bodies of the state of Puebla as well as with
the community and academic institutions.
À propos de l'hébergement
Lodging will be in a house provided by a family in the community and has all the necessary facilities for lodging and cleanliness..
The accommodation is located 4 blocks from the center of Calpan.
The food will be prepared by the volunteers in a collective dynamic. On some occasions they may be invited to eat at the house of one of the inhabitants.
À propos de l'emplacement
Huejotzingo is a Mexican city in the state of Puebla, located near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It is the municipal seat of Huejotzingo. On June 26, 2023, it was designated a Magical Town by the Ministry of Tourism.
It is the main producer of cider in Mexico. Entire families have shared the passion for making cider from generation to generation, in some cases in an artisanal way and using the methods they learned since the last century.
