A propos de l'organisation localeIndonesia as an archipelago country has both beautiful nature and many natural disasters. The most common is earthquake that hit every day in entire country with small and big scale. Indonesia also has the most active volcanoes in the world that have potential to erupt anytime. The earthquake itself is a unique natural disaster because people cannot predict the place and time it will occur. Until now there is no advance technology to predict earthquake. It was on 28 September 2018, a 7,5 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Palu and Donggala in Central Sulawesi. The earthquake was continued by the tsunami that have made a massive destruction in the city and offshore and killed more than 2000 people. It was the biggest earthquake hit in Indonesia in 2018 after several earthquakes hit in Lombok island few months earlier. The disaster was not finished yet because there was a rare phenomenon called liquefaction which is a phenomenon when the soil loses its strength because of sudden stress. This phenomenon causing thousands of houses in a village were flowing like water and sinking to the earth. Some of the buildings near the area were impacted with massive destruction and some of them were impacted with passive destruction. These disasters have left the people with sorrow and sadness. Some of the lost their family members, relatives, friends, and neighbors. They lived without electricity, water and food supplies for some days and without anything to do because the lost their jobs. The children could not go to the school because the building was damaged, and their teacher and some of students were the victims. The government and international disaster organization said that it takes more than 5 years to rebuild and recover the building, streets, and all facilities. Until the end of 2018, there are still many families who live in the shelter, tend and temporary house. The children also still doing their activity in outside or a tend while their school building is still under construction.

A propos du travail de volontaireThe volunteers will help to do trauma healing. The impact of disaster is not only construction and building damage, but also in psychological. The people are very sad, confused, cannot think clearly and cannot sleep well that can be a trauma especially for children and students. Volunteer can help to make fun activities such as sing a song, playing games, learning English and cultural exchange. Through these activities we hope to heal their trauma and share happiness among them. Volunteer also conduct physical activity such as renovating the damage building, removing the soil from school yard, and also renovating the classroom.

A propos de l'organisation localeSangiran Museum is the only pre historic museum listed in UNESCO World Heritage sites in Indonesia. Sangiran area is a nationally protected cultural site of human evolutions during Pleistocene. The last 3 years GREAT has been cooperating with Sangiran Conservation Office (SCO) to organize international workcamps targeting local youth/ students to promote role of youth in preserving world heritage by creating students club called the Young Guardian Club Sangiran. A propos de l'organisation localeCitarum is the longest river in West Java runs over 300 kilometres from the Wayang Mountain to the Java Sea. There are 30 million people rely on the water source for agriculture, water supply, fishery, industry, sewerage, electricity, etc. However, unregulated factory growth since the area’s rapid industrialisation in the 1980s has choked the Citarum with both human and industrial waste. The 5 million people who lived in the river basin are directly affected. Over 200 textile factories line the river banks and contaminate the river with lead, mercury, arsenic and other toxins, changing its colour and lending the area an acrid odour. Moreover, the river is also polluted and filed with trash such plastic, styrofoam, even dead animals. In cooperation with Bening Saguling foundation working in Citarum river basin and Saguling basin since 2015, GREAT started the IVS intervention since 2017. We work together in the community development program through education, social, economic, and environment conservation. By using the trash as their potential product for making “TRASH BANK”, they also take advantage from the water hyacinth weed (pollutant plant) by making handicraft from that plant. Now, the community have their own forest in the river basin where they conserve some variant of bamboo trees and other local trees. Their home based has become a learning centre for garbage management and water handicraft.

A propos du travail de volontaireThere are two activities; Physical Work (Picking up garbage from Citarum river and Saguling basin, doing garbage management, planting trees, making organic fertilizer, gardening, and making handy craft) and Non-physical Work (Conducting language class, mentoring green school project, taking part in culture class, doing school visits, organizing an environment educational workshop or socialization, creating art activities and promoting mini library)

  • Planter des palétuviers et autres arbres sur la plage ;
  • Informer les enfants et les habitants sur la gestion des déchets ;
  • Participer au ramassage des détritus ;

A propos de l'organisation localeSupporting local organization in garbage management and river conservation. Citarum is the longest river in West Java runs over 300 kilometres from the Wayang Mountain to the Java Sea. Their home based has become a learning centre for garbage management and water hyacinth handicraft. Aims:  To support the foundaton program in environment, social and education  To help garbage management project  To raise the awareness of environment and river conservation to local people  To manage the organic farm with local people  To organize a non formal education for the local people and local children  To exchange cultures among volunteers, local people, and local students  To spread out the idea of voluntary service and international workcamp among the local people

A propos de l'organisation localeThis is the first IVS project for PAUD Inklusi Tersenyum (Inclusive Pre School “Tersenyum) who provides space of interaction, education and social integration for children with disabilities (difabilities) and non difable in Boyolali near Solo, the city of culture in Central Java. With the same spirit between GREAT and the difable community founded by Ms. Titik Isnani, the anyone can be the agent of change toward world peace in any aspect of humanity, GREAT local volunteers has been making school visits monthly and did one mini workcamp in 2018 to get to know and experience deeper the people and the issue try to be promoted by the local community. The inclusivity for difable people and their families is still unpopular for many Indonesians especially in village area. Boyolali, even thou it is located next to Solo, an international cultural city, still has to raise awareness strongly in the local level on the difable rights of education, social interaction and integration. Stigma on the difable people to be non educated and useless need to be changed in the mind of people. Families who have difable children need to be encouraged to be strong and to keep their children at school. IVS, particularly international workcamp will bring international volunteers and national ones into the school and neighborhood with more interaction and isocial intergration activities that is expected to bring more diversity and solidarity to the humanity for these difables.
