The idea of creating AJUDE dates back to 1993. A propos du travail de volontaireMost of the time the volunteer will work with the children in activities that may include teaching, recreation, feeding, change diapers, etc and also helping with the planning and execution of the programs for the children.

Localisation du projetMaputo is the capital city of Mozambique. With a magical vibrant blend of Portuguese architecture, African ingenuity and exotic cuisine, Maputo is a fascinating African city. It is located -25.97 latitude and 32.58 longitude and it is situated at elevation 70 meters above sea level. Maputo has a population of 1,191,613 making it the biggest city in Mozambique. Generally, the communities offer ease access to diverse kind of facilities like banks, including ATM, internet access, hospitals/health care centres, local transport from one place to another (especially between home and work placements), shops, entertainment and so on. Maputo itself is very attractive in terms of tourism with very interesting places to visit. With historic monuments, cultural events and nice people. During their stay, the volunteers can visit the nearby areas for tourism and to relax. The biggest attraction is the Kruger National Park in South Africa, Elephant reserve in the southern part of the Maputo, Inhaca Island and several other beaches surrounding Maputo and Mozambique.

Localisation du projetIlha de Mozambique is located about 200 km east of Nampula city, the capital. Declared a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site in 1992 is linked to the mainland by 1.5 km long single lane causeway, the crescent shaped island measures a mere 2.5km from north to south and is at no point more than 600m wide. Despite of its small size the island support a population of roughly 7000 and as the most important Portuguese settlement on the East African coast for the best part of the centuries, it boast several of the oldest extant colonial buildings in the southern hemisphere.

A propos du travail de volontaireThe volunteers will be carrying out various environmental tasks at Tofo beach as well as cultural activities in Inhambane city. They will also take part on the environmental education programmes in the Ponta de Barra area close to Inhambane.

Localisation du projetInhambane Province is located in the South of Mozambique, about 420 kms from capital city Mozambique (Maputo). The capital of Inhambane Province lies on a natural formed by a deep inlet at the mouth of the small Matumba River. Inhambane it’s the oldest extant settlement between Maputo and Beira. By the end of the 16 century it had been incorporated into Portuguese East Africa monopoly and had become a regular port of call for Portugues ivory-trade ships. Roughly 400 slaves were exported from Inhambane in 1762, a number that had quadruped by the end of that decade while ivory export figures steadily sank. One of the leisure activities in Tofo could be diving.

Localisation du projetConjoene is located in Gaza Province, 60 km away from Xai-xai, the capital City of Gaza Province. Conjoene has been named to be the head of the District of Chongoene. Note that the airport of Gaza Province is intended to be sited in Conjoene. Also note that Conjoene still have no significant infrastructures, with no electricity, no running water. It is a really poor and rural area.

A propos du travail de volontaireThe volunteer will carry out environmental activities (tree planting along the coast, beach cleaning and environment education to the local community and tourists). The activities will be carried out in collaboration with local department of environment. The activities will run in different areas of Maputo including the beaches of Costa do Sol, Catembe and Macaneta.

A propos de l'organisation localeAJUDE (Associação Juvenil Para o Desenvolvimento do Voluntariado em Moçambique) is a non-profit organization which brings together young Mozambicans without distinction to race, sex, religion, tribe, level of education or any other way of discrimination. The idea of creating AJUDE dates back to 1993. Our main objectives are: a) to promote volunteer activities for young people in their spare time and holidays; b) to promote community development and encourage participation of community members in activities for their own benefit; c) To promote volunteer activities for young people in their spare time and holidays; d) to promote community development and encourage participation of community members in activities for their own benefit; e) to promote exchange of youth volunteers in the different regions of Mozambique, of Africa and the rest of the world; f) to send young Mozambican volunteers to participate in voluntary work in other countries; g) to create opportunities to exchange experiences between youth from different parts of the country and the rest of the world; h) to assist with community development; I) to promote international understanding through voluntary services; j) to enable young people to encounter and understand different cultures; k) to encourage the concept of voluntary services as a force in search for peace equality, democracy and international understanding; l) to provide opportunities for the people of Mozambique to become aware of international issues. Our activities goes to a) Cultural Youth Exchange; b) Human Rights; c)Rural Development; d) Gender Equality; e) Emergency and Natural Desaster Relief; f) HIV/AIDS e g) Environment and Sustainable Development trough several programs short, medium and long-term like ICYE (International Cultural Youth Exchange); Canada World Youth, both North-South and South-South; Workcamps and Weltwärts. We are member and partner with a) CWY – Canada World Youth; b) Volunteer Centre of South Africa; c) ICYE – International Culture Youth Exchange; d) Botswana Workcamp Association; e) Zimbabwe Workcamp Association; f) SCI – Service Civil International; g) Mozambique National Youth Council; h) LINK – Mozambique NGO’s Forum; i) CCIVS; j) SAYM – Southern Africa Youth Movement; k) SAWC – Southern Africa Workcamp Co-operation; l)Mozambique Volunteering Committee.

A propos du travail de volontaireWith the assistance of the department of National Parks the Volunteers will try and preserve local trees which are in considered in danger species and find out how many people still living in the Park. The volunteers will have the opportunity to take part in the process of reconstruction of the park

Localisation du projetGorogosa Park is located in Sofala Province in the center of Mozambique, about 1000 km away from the capital city of Mozambique (Maputo). Gorongoza National Park extends over the bracetygia-covered plains north of Beira Corridor to the south-eastern base of mount Gorongoza. Formerly regarded as one of the southern Africa’s finest wild life reserves, attracting over 12,000 visitors a year, with more game than the much larger Kruger National Park in South Africa, the area became central battleground during the Civil war ended in 1992. Since the war ended a lot of work has been done to reopen the park to visitors. Landmine have been lifted, bridges repaired and lodges rebuilt.

A propos du travail de volontaireVolunteers are expected to work with the children and not in the drug rehabilitation activities. As a volunteer in Remar you have not have a role unless you create one yourself; this gives you the freedom to be creative. The volunteer will be working outside of the school schedule, so you will not be formally teaching. You will be given the freedom to choose the age group and gender of children you wish to work with.

Localisation du projetThe main site of REMAR is located in Machava, one of the neighborhoods of Matola Municipality. It is in a residential area. It offers some facilities and is very ease connected to Maputo and Matola cities by regular transportation system.

Exigences• Willingness to work with children; • Be flexible and adaptable to a new culture and Christian religious habits and rules; • The ability to communicate verbally in Portuguese will further your experiences and the areas you can work in; • Skills or knowledge in arts and crafts, sports and music are extremely helpful; • Experience with children of all ages; • Patience with children and the organisation.

Localisation du projetThe Maputo Natural Reserve, with 1040 km² of area (locally known as Reserva Especial de Maputo) is located in the southernmost part of Mozambique, 79 km south of Maputo Province, on the Inhaca Peninsula. It encompasses the area from the Indian Ocean on the eastern boundary to the Rio Maputo on the western edge. The Maputo reserve is part of the Lubombos Tran frontier park, which links the Maputo Elephant Reserve in Mozambique through the Futi Corridor and the Lubombo Conservancy in Swaziland to the Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa, creating the first major elephant stronghold along Africa's eastern coastline.

Localisation du projetInhaca Island is situated about 40 km away from Maputo Capital City, being separated from it by the Indian Ocean. With calm, warm and blue waters. Few steps on the right there is another small island called “Ilha dos Portugueses”. The volunteers will have the opportunity to live in a very diverse ecosystem and also to get to see one of the most protected species, the aquatic turtles. It can take half hour in a boat ride. The main economic activity is fishing. Diving could be one of the leisure activities for volunteers.
