The centre welcomes international volunteers all year round to support its missions. By joining this project, you will contribute directly to conservation efforts while enjoying an immersive and authentic experience in Southeast Asia. No advanced scientific skills are required, only a strong motivation to protect the oceans. This marine conservation project is taking place in the Philippines, an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands located in the heart of the ‘Coral Triangle’, the global epicentre of marine biodiversity. This region is home to an exceptional concentration of species, but faces critical threats such as climate change, overfishing and plastic pollution. Our partner association, active on the island of Negros Oriental, is dedicated to protecting these fragile ecosystems through scientific research, habitat restoration (mangroves, corals) and education of local communities.
Your work has a direct and measurable impact. The data you collect helps scientists understand reef changes and guide conservation policies. By working alongside Filipino staff, you promote valuable cultural exchange and support a locally-led initiative, ensuring its relevance and sustainability. Your presence strengthens the organisation's capacity to carry out larger-scale actions.Impact and local collaboration Participating in community events and educational camps for young people. Raising environmental awareness among local communities and schools; Restoring mangroves, vital ecosystems that protect coastlines and serve as nurseries for many species; Organising and participating in beach and seabed clean-ups; Entering and analysing collected data on computers; Collecting data on underwater biodiversity (corals, fish, invertebrates); Participants who are not certified divers can take on-site training through the PADI programme and advance to the advanced level, while divers who are already certified can take continuing education courses. Your role and responsibilities As a volunteer, you will be trained and supervised by a team of local scientists and professionals. Your role will be varied and essential to the success of conservation initiatives.
The living spaces are open to nature, promoting a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Bathrooms and common areas are shared, which encourages interaction and strengthens team spirit. This is not a tourist resort, but an authentic living space dedicated to conservation. Volunteers participate in the daily life of the centre (light maintenance of common areas), which strengthens bonds within the team.Volunteers are accommodated directly on the project site, in an exceptional natural setting between jungle, mangroves and ocean. Accommodation consists of shared rooms, simple but comfortable, designed in an ecological and community spirit with local materials such as wood and bamboo.
Sunday is a day off when volunteers usually prepare their own meals, providing a great opportunity to cook together and share convivial moments.Three meals a day are provided on site from Monday to Saturday. The cuisine is mainly vegetarian, in keeping with the project's ecological approach and local culinary traditions rich in vegetables and tropical fruits. An exception is made on Saturdays, when a fish or meat dish may be offered. Snacks are available throughout the day.
The nearest town, Dumaguete, nicknamed ‘the city of gentle people’, is about 45 minutes away by local transport. It offers all the necessary amenities (markets, restaurants, cafés, hospital) and is an excellent gateway for exploring the local culture. The project is based at Siit Arboretum, in the municipality of Zamboanguita, on the island of Negros Oriental, in the Visayas region. Nestled by the sea, the site enjoys a preserved natural environment, far from mass tourism. This location is ideal for focusing on conservation missions while enjoying a peaceful and immersive living environment.
Nature lovers can hike to the twin lakes of Balinsasayao, explore refreshing waterfalls or volcanic hot springs. A visit to Dumaguete allows you to stroll along its famous seaside boulevard, visit its historic university or sample local specialities in the lively markets. Weekends are often an opportunity to organise group excursions and share unforgettable moments.During your free time, the region offers a multitude of opportunities for adventure and discovery. You can, of course, enjoy the ocean for diving, snorkelling or swimming. The region is world-renowned for its exceptional diving sites, notably Apo Island, a protected marine sanctuary accessible by boat.
