Social Welfare Home (Dom Pomocy Społecznej) in Gdynia is intended for 79 people. There are 52 places for elderly people and 27 places for chronically somatically ill people in the age from 48 to 101 from the city of Gdynia. We are an organizational unit of the city of Gdynia. The house was built in 2010, it is a unique place with garden for a good life for its residents. There are 17 places in 3-4 people rooms and rest of 1-2 people's room. Social Welfare Home contains a large canteens, a day room, rehabilitation room, occupational therapy and a chapel. We look after and nurture people who are unable to function independently due to their age, illness or disability for 24 hours. The house and its surroundings are adapted to the needs of the disabled and have no architectural barriers. We employ 67 workers with various specializations. These are therapists, social workers, psychologists, speech therapist, nurses, physiotherapists. In addition, willing volunteers come to help. The department provides 24/7 care and assistance in basic life activities (e.g. feeding, cleaning) also we are dealing with some personal matters,trying keeping in touch with family and local environment. We provide our carres with: -wide range of activities, various circles of interest, -provide physical and therapeutic rehabilitation -social activation -horticultural therapy -meetings of Senior Club in our Social Welfare Home -participation in activities of organisation „Słoneczna Jesień" next to SWH

Social Welfare Home in Gdynia is a residential care home for elderly people who need daily support. Some residents may have difficulties with moving around, taking care of their health, or managing everyday tasks, so they are supported by professional staff. The home is located in a cosy and green area, close to a forest, and has its own garden. It is home to 79 residents who form a small community. For them, it is important not only to receive care, but also to have social contact, stay active, and feel included. The centre offers different activities that help residents maintain their physical and mental wellbeing. These include rehabilitation, therapeutic activities, Senior Club meetings, and various social and cultural events. As a volunteer, you will mainly support occupational therapy activities. This type of therapy helps residents stay active, develop their interests, and enjoy their time. You will also help organise holidays and special events.

Volunteer will be provided with: - accommodation in a rented flat, in 1-2 persons room shared with other volunteers - monthly pocket money and allowance - monthly budget for bus ticket in Gdynia.

Volunteer is obliged to participate in two trainings provided by National Agency (On-arrival Training and Mid-term Training) as well as in the trainings organized and run by supporting organization.

The Participant profile: We are looking for volunteers who: - are open to working with elderly people; -enjoy arts and crafts (drawing, painting, sewing, etc.); -have a positive attitude towards their work; -are patient and empathetic; -are creative and able to work independently; -are willing to look for new ideas and inspiration for workshops; -are ready to learn basic Polish phrases to support communication.
