Mums pieder pasaule is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Latvia that aspires to empower youth and foster active civic participation. Our mission is to provide meaningful and skill-building activities for rural young people, helping them develop into informed, active, and community-minded individuals. Our main activities span a wide range of fields, including youth development, community service, cultural and civic partirticipation and volunteerism. We aim to fill a vital gap in our local community, especially in rural areas like Svitene and Viesturi, where opportunities for youth are limited. We arrange various programmes such as festivals, workshops, seminars, and community service initiatives, facilitating youth participation and promoting their holistic development. Our target groups primarily comprise the youth from these local communities. We also focus on local community members who are part of our festivals, cultural events, environmental and other activities. We believe that acquiring the QL will further our mission, as it will enable us to participate in the ESC, thereby extending our reach to more young individuals and offering them valuable opportunities for personal and societal growth. By securing the QL, we also hope to strengthen our commitment to the development of our young people, encourage their active participation in the local and international community, and foster an environment that promotes learning, tolerance, and understanding.
The volunteer will take part in the daily life of the youth centre in Svitene and Pilsrundale and support different activities for children and young people. This may include creative workshops, games, outdoor activities, cultural events, informal learning activities and small community initiatives. The volunteer will prepare, organise and run activities. Volunteer will also have the opportunity to create own ideas, such as workshops connected with media, photography, video, music, culture, games or other personal interests. Their main support person in daily activities will be the second volunteer, who will focus on creating social media content and sharing the youth centre’s stories online. Through these activities, the volunteer will support young people’s creativity, communication, teamwork and active participation in local community life.
Volunteers will live in a shared two-room apartment with another volunteer, each having their own private room. The apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen, shower, washing machine, and free Wi-Fi. The project provides a monthly food allowance of 150 EUR and daily pocket money of 5 EUR. Travel costs for arrival and departure are covered, as well as local transport to and from project activities. Health insurance is included. As public transport in rural areas is limited, a bicycle can be provided if needed.
The volunteer will receive practical training and support from the hosting organisation and the youth centre team. At the beginning, volunteer will be introduced to the project, the local community, daily work in the youth centres and basic safety rules. The volunteer will learn how to plan and lead simple activities for children and young people, use non-formal education methods, support group work, and communicate with different age groups. They will also receive guidance on how to cooperate with the second volunteer, who will focus on social media content.
The Participant profile: We are looking for a motivated and open-minded volunteer who enjoys working with children and young people and is interested in community life. The participant should be ready to support daily youth centre activities, communicate with different age groups and take part in creative, educational and informal learning activities. This position is suitable for someone who is friendly, responsible, patient and willing to learn. Previous experience in youth work is welcome, but not required. What matters most is motivation, curiosity and the ability to cooperate with the team and the second volunteer, who will mainly focus on social media content. The volunteer should be comfortable living in a small rural community, where free time opportunities are more limited than in a big city, but where there is a strong chance to create meaningful connections, try new ideas and become part of local life.
