About the local hosting organization

You in Europe", founded in 2012, aims at solidarity and understanding between societies, especially in Europe. Ιt promotes volunteering as a mean of enhancing social cohesion and equality, a tool for the integration of individuals from vulnerable social groups. In this context it establishes communication networks between populations in European countries. Also, we promote volunteerism through european projects in the field of non-formal learning in cooperation with other organizations with similar aims. Since 2012, we participate as sending and hosting organization in youth exchanges and trainings and as coordinating of the formely European Voluntary Service. We have been involved in more than 220 youth exchanges and trainings, focused on interculturalism and intercultural education. Our target group is mainly young people and social groups who experience exclusion and marginalization. For this reason we use techniques and methods of the non formal learning. The preparation of the volunteers and the communication with them during their project, has given experience to our members to handle various situations.Organization's executives have been trained in SOHO seminars and we employ a former volunteer as the internal mentor. This situation and the experience we have gained since 2012, give us the required know-how for the coordination, supporting and hosting a volunteering project

Presentation of the programme

The volunteers will participate and help in the daily activities of SFA and help us to develop our work and the lives of disabled people. They will be important part of our team with several different options to contribute and make a difference. The volunteers will work with our disabled participants, with other volunteers and with our staff members, so openness to working with mentally disabled people and ability to cooperate are essential.More specifically Helping in classes as assistant Leading a class Permanent help with certain disabled participant Creating needed materials for the classes Helping to document the work done by staff and volunteers Taking photos and videos and editing them for use Drafting materials for raising awareness and training volunteers Helping in general organizing of events and classes Searching for cooperation partners and places for actions Checking new ideas Looking for suitable training courses and cooperation partner etc

About the accomodation

Volunteers will stay in an apartment that has 3 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen. It will be equipped to meet the basic needs of the volunteer himself to live there with dignity. Additional equipment can be added on request and deemed necessary. Travel cost reimbursement: The nearest airport is this of Thessaloniki - Makedonia airport (SKG). Volunteers will be reimbursed for their tickets (airplane, train, bus), both ways, according to the Distance Calculator of the E.U. Local transportation also covered. Volunteers will monthly receive 160 EUR for food and 7 EUR pocket money per day.

About the leisure activities

Volunteers will take part in on-arrival and mid-term trainings, organized by the National Agency. Additionally there will be internal trainings if need for any position. The adress below is the working place.

Requirements

The Participant profile: 2 young people who really want to live as a volunteer, to learn from their experience and to develop personal and professional skills. Specific professional knowledge that would be appreciated: Knowledge about law, especially Human Rights and International legal framework for social work; Knowledge about economics, especially fundraising; Knowledge about disability work, especially fields of supporting communication and independent living; To be willing to share the apartment with a person of different gender, if needed.
