You will join the Network of Concerned Historians (at EuroClio) to campaign for the protection of historical freedom, ethical research, and the documentation of censorship worldwide. This is a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in an interdisciplinary field that combines history, human rights advocacy, journalism, and digital archiving. You will participate in two core activities: - Compiling information about censorship of history (e.g. unlawful education curricula revisions; unlawful restriction of archival access) and persecution of bona fide history producers (including murder, arrest, dismissal, travel bans, etc.); - Constructing an archive of global censorship of history since Ancient times, including a memorial for killed historians, a database of history-related legal cases and professional codes of ethics. For this volunteer activity, you will research censorship of history and the persecution of historians worldwide and document cases for the NCH Annual Report.
You will live in the Archipelbuurt in The Hague, in the EuroClio Secretariat building, with your own private room and shared bathroom, kitchen, and dining area. You will receive a fee based on 4 days’ work. Accommodation costs are covered, but food is not included. Weekends are free for rest, cultural exploration, or visiting nearby cities. We have many cultural activities and places to recommend. Check out the infopack for more information: https://euroclio.eu/european-solidarity-corps/.
You will receive on-arrival training hosted by Don Bosco Youthnet Nederland in Assel, the Netherlands, where you will meet international volunteers and develop skills to succeed in an intercultural environment, and mid-term training provided by the Dutch National Agency. You will receive ongoing mentoring from a EuroClio Staff member working with the Network of Concerned Historians. Through regular meetings with the NCH internship coordinator, NCH founder and current coordinator, you will receive support, ask questions, and develop your own ideas and projects.
The Participant profile: You can apply if you are aged 20 to 30, interested in living abroad for 12 months, and excited to work in an international team. We are specifically looking for people who are excited to take initiative, can communicate effectively in English, and contribute to project management in a team-oriented environment. It is a plus if you are motivated to explore history, human rights, advocacy, and digital archiving. Familiarity in languages other than Dutch, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese or German is also an asset. Applicants from rural areas or with fewer opportunities to travel are particularly encouraged to apply, as EuroClio is committed to building a diverse and inclusive volunteer community that reflects a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Because this position is writing-heavy, we kindly ask all interested applicants to submit a 500-1000-word writing sample to Lauriane Borsaline Rotté ([email protected]) about one of the following topics: - Academic freedom and democracy; - Politicisation of history and memory; - The importance of the right to truth in post-conflict societies; - Cultural heritage and genocide. Given the availability of Large Language Models, original positions on recent topics will be valued most highly. Every writing sample will also go through an AI recognition software. Please explicitly state any use of LLM software to check grammar and language.Deadline: 22/07/2026 16:00
