This project supports young people with special educational needs (SEN), including those facing economic and social challenges, by promoting autonomy, initiative, communication skills, and professional inclusion. Volunteers will take part in educational, social and practical activities that help SEN young people progress in learning, build confidence and independence, and prepare for active personal and professional lives. Activities will take place at AEVA and with partner organisations. Volunteers may also collaborate with Europe Direct Aveiro Viseu Dão Lafões, supporting initiatives such as “Youth on the Move”, “Europe Goes to School”, European Parliament election activities, and other European-themed events in schools, libraries, youth associations, universities and local communities. Through these experiences, volunteers will develop personal, social, intercultural and professional skills while promoting inclusion, equal opportunities, active citizenship and European awareness.
Volunteers will be accommodated in twin rooms in a fully equipped three-bedroom flat, about 400m from our organisation. During the week, meals will be provided in the canteen, subject to its opening hours. They will receive a monthly food allowance, as well as the fixed monthly pocket money allowance established for ESC volunteers, to cover personal expenses. Local transport required for specific activities or travel between the organisation’s different premises will be provided. Volunteers may use AEVA’s dedicated transport or travel with authorised members of staff when appropriate.
On arrival, they will participate in an integration programme. They will be involved in group dynamics in order to get to know each other better and avoid conflicts among them. Development of social and intercultural skills is also foreseen during this training as well as a good integration in the community, letting the volunteers knowing the local and regional habits, cultural aspects, festivities, etc. Specific training, knowledge and competences in working with individuals with special needs and some training on bio/organic-farming will also be organized before they start their work.
The Participant profile: Motivated volunteers for working with international groups, responsible, with enthusiasm and interest in sharing their own culture and to work in teams. Flexibility in changing or developing situations is essential, as well as an ability to work with young individuals with special needs. Portuguese and/or Spanish and English language or communication skills are of advantage. Another important aspect is the capacity of the volunteer to work with SEN young individuals, be inclusive and being prepared to learn how to deal with them in specific situations, how to help them overcome some problems and be autonomous.Deadline:
