About the local hosting organization

Our civic association OTVOR DVOR started in 2012 with a series of soft activities in the public space of our town such as organising contemporary arts exhibitions, art film projections, organising local food market, etc. After some time, we felt the need to rent a single space where we could advance our activities. In 2016 we rented an abandoned Franciscan monastery in the historical centre of our town Rožňava from the local municipality. We signed a 20-year contract with an aim to restore the building step by step and to create an independent cultural-creative centre in its premises. We called this project Kultúrno-kreatívne centrum Kláštor (KC Kláštor) - transl. Cultural-creative centre "Monastery". So far, we have managed to restore a major part of the building with help of various sponsors and several international and national projects (we have already been supported by EU funds, Norwegian funds, the Slovak Ministry of Culture, Slovak Arts´ Council, etc.). In recent years we have opened an art café, a bookstore, a co-working space, and accommodation premises (2 apartments and 6 hostel rooms) in the building. We organise a lot of cultural events on an almost daily basis as an independent cultural centre (incl. concerts, public readings of authors, theatre performances, exhibitions, discussions on important topics, etc.) and work with the youth. Presentation of the programme

KC Kláštor is a vibrant cultural and community center in the heart of Rožňava, a town in eastern Slovakia known for its historical architecture, proximity to the Slovak Karst, and a peaceful yet open community atmosphere. As a volunteer, you will support the center's team in organizing cultural events, workshops, and community activities for people of all ages. You will be part of a team that runs the accommodation, café, kitchen, and of course, cultural programming, aiming to contribute to the development of the local community. We warmly welcome your own ideas, skills, and cultural perspectives. The center prides itself on an open and inclusive environment where every idea and every person has a place. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community development and cultural management, build confidence in working with people, and experience everyday life in a small yet lively Slovak town close to nature.

About the accomodation

We will provide volunteers with suitable accommodation located directly on the host organization's premises, featuring a private room with a shared kitchen and bathroom. Volunteers receive pocket money of €5 per day and a food allowance of €7 per day, and are responsible for preparing their own meals. International travel costs are reimbursed within the set budget, and local transport related to your duties is fully covered.

About the leisure activities

Volunteers will take part in the ESC training cycle organized by the Slovak National Agency, which focuses on personal development and intercultural learning. Additionally, our organisation arranges hikes and other activities for volunteers throughout the service period, providing opportunities for social interaction.
