**Kasa de Colores** is the first cultural center in the Puerto Rico community, a space for connection, learning, and community transformation. It was born from a deep commitment to strengthening the social fabric through the promotion of ancestral knowledge, cultural expressions, and sustainable practices that inspire collective growth. We are a dedicated team committed to education, mindful recreation, and respect for nature, working in collaboration with youth, families, and local stakeholders. ## General Objective To create physical and symbolic spaces that foster the expansion of knowledge, the preservation of local memory, and inspiration for the holistic development of the community, with a special focus on youth, families, and local stakeholders.

# **Phase 1: A Model Neighborhood for Environmental Culture** ## Current Situation The **"Connect with Nature"** project has been steadily establishing itself as a strategy to strengthen community-based tourism in the western sector by bringing together local initiatives focused on environmental conservation, environmental education, and sustainable economic development. Through participatory workshops, interpretive nature walks, and partnerships with community stakeholders, the project has highlighted the area's tourism potential while reinforcing residents' commitment to protecting the natural environment through responsible and sustainable practices. ### Current Challenges * Lack of information points to guide visitors on community tourism opportunities, local regulations, biodiversity, and recommended routes. * Insufficient and inconsistent signage to facilitate mobility, encourage respect for the environment, and strengthen the area's identity. * Limited availability of main stops or rest areas for visitors, particularly along hiking trails and access routes to natural attractions. * Lack of separated waste bins, making proper waste management difficult and contradicting the sustainability principles promoted by the project. ## Features of the New Space * Safe and accessible location for both pedestrians and vehicles. * Community information services for tourism and cultural activities. * Information boards displaying local events, services, and community news. * Reading and relaxation area with appropriate furniture and an integrated community library. * Environmentally sensitive design using sustainable materials and bioconstruction techniques. ## Expected Impact * Improved road and pedestrian safety. * Activation of public spaces as places for gathering, learning, and community interaction. * Greater visibility of the community's cultural heritage. * Promotion of community-based and sustainable tourism. * Strengthened sense of belonging and increased civic participation. --- # **Phase 2: Development of Ecological Trails** ## Current Situation These gaps limit the positive impact of community-based tourism, both in terms of income generation and the development of a shared environmental culture. They also pose risks to the conservation of local ecosystems and to the safety of visitors. ## Proposed Actions * Installation of green roofs and planting of native trees to provide shade and improve rainwater absorption. * Creation of micro nature reserves for stormwater management. * Development of habitats for local flora and fauna to promote biodiversity. * Rest and observation areas for hiking, exercise, relaxation, and meditation. * Community information points and environmental signage throughout the trail system. ## Expected Impact * Reduced risk and impact of flooding. * Promotion of ecotourism and mindful hiking experiences. * Increased appreciation of the area's natural and cultural landscapes. * Strengthened environmental education and community participation. * Improved quality of life and enhanced physical and emotional well-being for local residents.
