About the local hosting organization
Shadow Mountain Children's Home is a project that was founded by Hanna Wangari in April 2014 as a rescue centre for orphaned and vulnerable children living in Babadogo, Ruarka Nairobi County. The project rescues children that come from the streers of Nairobi, where they have been orphaned or abandonned by their families due to poverty or illness. There are also cases where some children have run away from abusive situations and are brought to the children home by people while others are brought by the police. The project's main objective is to build self-reliant individuals morally, intellectually, socialy and spiritually. Since its establishment, the project has so far taken 4 children to a Secondary boarding school in Meru, and 25 children to a primary boarding school in Nairobi. 41 children are currently residing in the home. The main activities undertaken by the orphanage include giving care and support to orphans and vulnerable children, empowerment for older orphans and HIV/AIDS education.
