About the local hosting organizationICYE GHANA Ashan Children's Home is a Ministry of Ashan Development Centre, a registered non-governmental organization, NGO, established in 1999. Their first three children were admitted in 2002; three more joined them later that year and currently the home has 52 children and babies. The main aim of Ashan children home is to creation of a comfortable and dependable home- substitute for orphans and socially disadvantaged children in the society. Ashan's vision is for children to become adults, civic leaders in their communities, and leaders in the nation of Ghana.
About the volunteer workThe volunteers are expected to assist in: Bath children ; Help children brush their teeth ; Prepare children for school ; Assisting them in doing their home work ; Feeding or helping them eat ; Be a supportive, helping hand in the project with daily activities, organizing or supporting them ; Talking with the people in the community ; Taking the children to the clinic when they are sick. Volunteers are also to develop and organize programmes in collaboration with the project managers based on their personal interest or talents.
Local accommodationThe project would provide accommodation for the volunteers; this is either host family or the volunteers stay in the project. Volunteers must be open-minded that they would be sharing rooms with other volunteer. The project is collaboration with ICYE Ghana will make provision for their feeding during their stay.
