About the local hosting organization
You will be living in an ecovillage for six months. This programme will enable you to engage actively with communal life, discover new skills and sharpen your passions through practical activities within the organization's nine departments , and work closely with passionate and inspirational individuals committed to low-impact, intentional living.
These six months will allow you to deepen your practical knowledge of off-grid, community living, develop personal projects in areas such as organic and biodynamic agriculture, natural eco-construction, drylands management, appropriate ‘low-tech’ technologies, environmental campaigning, and more.
A lively hub for individuals passionate about alternative culture, you’ll spend the six months developing a project under the supervision of our international staff team, and will act as an assistant in one of our departments, eventually supporting the delivery of educational programmes for short-term volunteers, and helping to shape the future of this 30-year-old project.
About the volunteer work
Both volunteers will work to support one of our nine departments. Specific involvement may vary slightly as your project/s will be tailored to a combination of your passions and Sunseed’s priority. Our nine departments fall within three overall focus areas:
You will likely be living in a two-to-four person room for the entire volunteering period. Monday to Friday you can eat all your meals - breakfast through dinner - communally with the rest of the community.
About the project location
The programm will be held in the ecovillage of Los Molinos del Rio Aguas, near Almeria, Spain.
About the leisure activities possible
At weekends you are free to choose how to spend your time, you may wish to eat in a smaller group, go into the local town of Sorbas for a pizza and a beer, take one of many hiking trails to explore this geologically unique region, or chill out with friends after a busy week.
We are looking for motivated candidates with a pro active, creative and problem solving attitude, good knowledge of English and organisational skills. If you resonate with or have previously worked on issues related to social, economic and environmental justice, and have a keen interest in community living, we’d love to hear from you!
