About the local hosting organizationSituated at the beautiful Sok Kwu Wan on Lamma Island, Lamma Fisherfolk's Village is a showcase of the local fisherfolk culture and the history of fishery industry in Hong Kong. Occupying an area of over 20,000ft², the Village comprises authentic fishing junk, traditional dragon boats, an exhibition hall, themed folklore booths, fishing rafts and dwellings. We aimed to present a new possibility of music performance to HK audience, we consists of two important components, society-oriented and self-sufficient: We are devoted to explore the multifaceted nature of music by hosting social-concept music concerts - Barter Concert and WITHIN10mins series - 'Music is more than entertainment'; Self-financing is a way to maintain independence in music creation and hosting conceptual concerts, at the same time to live out the value of self-sufficiency.
About the volunteer workThe project is co-organized by VolTra and Lamma Fisherfolk's Village. Hong Kong was a fishing village hundred years ago but fishery industry is now on the decline. Many of the traditional culture and history is faded with time. Our aim for this project is mainly to educate the public on the culture and history of fishery in Hong Kong, as well as to enable them to appreciate the natural beauty of the Island. At the end of this workcamp, our music partner, De Tesla, will organize a special outdoor concert on the floating dock in the Fisherfolk's Village to re-define the identity and value of fishery culture though the dialogue between Hong Kong people, fishermen and foreigners on our origin, fishery industry. There will be a fundraising DIY market to share fishery cultural product. 1. Organize fishery conservation awareness campaign 2. Repair the facilities on the floating dock and accommodation 3. Organize cultural exchange activities 4. Visit elderly in the island 5. Participate in the outdoor concert by giving comments and insights about Hong Kong and the fishery industry 6. Prepare and support the outdoor concert
Local accommodationAt the volunteer's house with simple and basic living environment. Sleeping bags and mats are required.
