About the local hosting organizationThe Cebu City Local Government through the Barangay Sirao Government will co-organize the project to promote local youth empowerment. Barangay Sirao local youth leaders will take the lead in the organization of the Heart to Heart Program to promote love of local village life as well as experience rich inter-cultural understanding with international volunteers. The project also aims to assist the renovation of barangay community facility as part of the youth’s contribution to social service related endeavors.
About the volunteer workWith the support and assistance of Cebu City Local Government, local community and volunteers will have activities such as: 1. Organization of youth camp 2. Assist in the renovation of community center like refurbishment, repainting and beautification 3. Interact with the local children and youth through art, sports and team building activities 4. Exchange of culture through music, games, food, language, etc
Local accommodationThe private residence of one of the local Barangay Sirao Officials will be used for the accommodation of volunteers. Personal sleeping bag is needed. Filipino food will be prepared by a local cook and International volunteers are encouraged to assist in the preparations to know about Filipino way of preparing and cooking food.
About the project locationBarangay Sirao is located in the northern mountainous interior part of Cebu City. It is one of the remote barangays of Cebu City and rural life is very evident. Cebu City is the second biggest city in the Philippines that is rich in cultural and heritage sites. Cebu City is known as “The Queen City of the South” having a very rich cultural heritage. It is the center of Catholic Religion that draws millions of Filipinos flocking the City during the month of January to celebrate the Feast of Senior Sto. Nino as well as the most awaited world renowned SINULOG Festival. During leisure time, volunteers can choose to visit various cultural heritage sites, eco-tourism adventure activities or head to the nearest pristine white sandy beaches around the island of Cebu.
Extra info about the projectParticipants may bring their local food (Snacks/drink), educational supplies and art materials and used educational books if possible to be used and distributed to local children/youth during camp.
